Just a quick bit of info, you cant test a battery with a meter, you need to do a discharge test, any cheap volt meter will give you fairly good idea of Alternator output, it can go up to 15volts after starting, but should steady out at around 13.5 to 14.5, a simple battery check would be make note of voltage when you park up, check again before you start in morning then as you start, your looking at 12volt + when you parkup, 12 before you start, and no less than 10.75 on crank, then you want to see 14.5 + on start.
hope that helps Very Happy

Gwiz, that's exactly what I plan on doing! Thumbs Up

Just been and picked this one up - http://mobile.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=4407

£20, bargain!

Geoff, just tested it, after an hours drive home and an hours rest while went to get the tester...

12.6v with the car awake LR logo on nav screen.
10.??v On crank - was still warm so fired up instantly.
15.06v at idle after 5 or 10secs with all toys turned off.
15.06v at idle after 5mins with light, stereo, seats, air con on.
12.7v after shut off 15secs to a minute.

Will check again before setting off tomorrow AM.

Many thanks for the call this morning, very much appreciated. Bow down

See you Saturday Thumbs Up

RAW, how would I do that? Embarassed I'm a complete idiot when it comes to anything electrical!!

Voltage was 12.2 this morning before startup, pretty sure I saw the meter drop to 4.something when cranking...
