| Front lower suspension arms - now no air suspension |
|
Well just replace both my front lower suspension arms bolts even came out ok - bit of a  having to remove the drive shaft from the hub to get the arms on and off.
Any way I marked the cam bolts with paint as I saw on here to keep close to alignment.
Problem is the air suspension will not go to off road height message says - wait for system to cool before raising suspension" im hoping ts just the jacking up that has caused this.
Also however the traction control seems to keep coming on without driving like a mad man! is this just the wheel alignment out? any help would be great wife needs the car for Monday

going to try to get it alignment done just dont want to get it done only to take things apart again. Suspension seems to work just very slowly message says suspension rising slowly - makes sense if it was badly aligned?

Damaged wiring to abs sensor, and/or height sensor maybe  Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

any ideas how to check? there were no wires anywhere near the arm so cant see how they could have been damaged. Only wire is going to the hub over speed sensor for abs etc but seems ok.

Did you have the correct measurement of 466mm from the top of the wheel arch to the centre of the hub before you tightened the suspension arm to strut bolt?

RobV, I have no idea I had to take measurements does this have a knock on effect if not? How do you adjust the height before tightening?

Yes the measurement is very important as this is what sets the datum for the suspension height in the position of the bushes at normal setting height, if you have not done this then thats what is confusing the suspension, you need to slacken off the bolts and then jack the hub up to the set measurement as Robv has written on his post and then tighten the bolts..

Ok thanks for that info Im away to try right now. Where did you get that info is it worth buying a haynes manual for the disco 3 ? My old 300 is so much easier! Hope loosening the bolts is enough and its not stuck in some sort of logic.

Never understood why you have to set the height of the hub, before tightening the bolts.
They have to be loosened off to adjust the camber/castor settings, effectively rendering that process a waste of time  My D3 Build Thread

im with Disco Micky, not sre if im missing something here.
Jacked the car up (baring in mind its -4 here) then lossened the bolts on the strut and jacket up the hub so its 466mm from arch to center of hub (i measured from under the body arch not inside the arc)
Re tigtened te bolts but wen I release the jack on the hub the assembly drops again so I cant see how this sets anything. Am I just being sill here and missing something obvious?

Its nothing to do with the height of the hub when you de-jack it, its the twist you put in the bushes when the weight of the car is on the floor at normal height as I understand the reasons why you have to do it this way. As the bush has a certain amount of twist in it I see the reasoning behind that at this measurement setting is the datum point so the arm can travel up or down and have the same twist in the bush up or down.
If you do not set it at the settings quoted and tighten the bolts with leg fully down in the unloaded position, and then drop the car on its feet then you are loading the bush one way more than the other, and the suspension is seeing this and thinking there is a problem.
Mikey don't forget when the camber is checked the car is on its feet and that is the setting you are doing.

I think I know wht your says but to get this right ill jack the car back up. Loosen the strut bolt and the two other cam bolts on the arm. Jack the hub to 466mm then re tighten everything up?
Will this reset everything - we will see back out into the cold!

Well just back into the warm after loosening the bolts and jacking the hub bang on 466. tightened everything up. wheels back on. Started the car selected off road height and ............ the same! Jut comes up with Suspensions raising slowly!
I love the old discoverys they were straight forward think this one has had me! I hate to think I have to go to the dealers and get ripped off after wasting 2 days on it.
