Io sono in viaggio da e verso Calais del sud d'Italia attraverso la Valle d'Aosta appena prima di Natale.
So che In Val d'Aosta dal 15 Ottobre al 15 Aprile tutti i veicoli devono essere equipaggiati con pneumatici da neve o catene.
Che cosa è esattamente "Val d'Aosta" - posso by-passare questo settore evitando così di dover acquistare le catene da neve?
Vi prego di perdonare il mio pessimo italiano.

A better & quicker route is via Strasburg - Basle - Milan - Bologna - Florence -
Thanks...but I would like to call on friends, actually a vineyard, in the Macon area.
I also thought that I would probably need chains somewhere on that route - what's your experience in December/January?

Val d'Aosta is an Italian law Disctrict.
From 15th, nov 2013 to 15th, apr, 2014 chain (also in baggage car) or winter tires (mounted) are required in many "districts", especially in the alps. In Val d'Aosta this obligation started form 15th Oct.
You are OK if your tires are marked M&S, MS, M-S e M+S, with or without snow flake
I think that your Disco had this tires yet (In Italy are the first equipment when you bought your car)
