2014 DISCOVERY GETS SINGLE-SPEED OPTION
BY: Mike Goodbun
Date: 01.11.2013
The facelifted Discovery will be available without low-range for the first time in 2014, bringing it in line with the entry-level Range Rover Sport and traditionally less-capable rivals.
Single-speed Discovery joins the Land Rover line-up in 2014
A Torsen centre differential removes the need for a transfer box, which shaves a few kg off the kerbweight and won’t be noticed by anyone who doesn’t use their vehicle for towing or off-road use.
Like the Sport, the Discovery (no longer Discovery 4) gets Wade Sensing, Blind Spot Monitoring and T-Junction cameras, plus a Meridian audio system with up to 825W, 17 speakers and Surround Sound.
A stop-start system is also available, which turns the engine off when stationary (with your foot on the brake) after stopping from more than 2.5mph.
Other revisions include the Discovery name running across the front of the bonnet, losing the number 4 from the tail badge, a redesigned front bumper, radiator grille, and lights – incorporating daytime running lights, and adaptive Xenon with cornering lights in some markets.
It’ll still be known as LR4 in North America, with Land Rover on bonnet. On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

Oh dear, no low range; another step to becoming an SVU rather than true off-roader.
I am sure the stop start option will be completly relaible in 5 years time given the quaility of LR electronics!!Club Narpy Torch

So if it's not the D3 & not the D4 is it just the D or do we just call it the Db (b for D I S C O V E R Y splattered all across the bonnet)?
Why would anyone want a "Meridian audio system with up to 825W, 17 speakers and Surround Sound" ?
It does sound like overkill - the Harman kardon LOGIC7 audio system, 13 speakers, seven-channel digital surround sound system with 6-disc in-dash changer from the D3 is more than adequate IMHO - I'm not sure how many watts though - certainly more than enough.

ISTR that low range will be an option, not standard 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The option to add or remove low range wasn't there when I ordered mine...I expect it to have low range though.

With the notable exception of Defender all the LR/RR vehicles use Meridien sound systems. Discovery was the last one to change over and I suspect it's all been done in the name of standardisation.
Having used numerous vehicles with the 825W Meriden Surround Sound System and 17 speakers I can say it's very good but then again the Harmon Kardon one wasn't a bad system.

In Germany the base model without air suspension only comes with the Torsen center diff, on S trim the low range box is a 750€ option and on SE and HSE trim it comes as standard.

I didn't look at the spec below HSE, it would almost have nothing then...but then UK spec is very different normally
