Lost thread - SDD
Hi all,
We have accidentally deleted the recent SDD discussion thread, I will work to recover it from the database backup and cached pages.

The last message was somehow like a "How to build yourself a fault code reader and eraser".
Please, if conflicts with some sponsor interests, tell me and we will find a solution...
I just want to be useful to the community and share my findings and others to benefit from that...
Am I wrong with something?.... If not, please split the topic from the last post and give it that title above.

It will always conflict with someone. You can't please everyone
Same as when I started doing my How-To's. A forum member took offence to that, as I showed how easy some jobs could be, and it must have started eating into his workload with people doing the jobs themselves
However, I would say a big disclaimer should be added to the beginning of the thread. Playing with CCF files are not something that should be done without knowing what you are doing, and what the potential implications are, beforehand.
Even if you do know what you are doing, you could still it all up My D3 Build Thread
You're right about the CCF stuff, but inside SDD there is always the option to switch to AS-BUILT source as the default source and fix any mistakes you've made onto CCF.
But the "How to..." thing is not about CCF editing. It's a separate issue.
Just wanted to share how I've made myself a fault code reader with no more than a few bucks and several hours of programming and tinkering with electronics...

It is known that JLR doesn't let you modify any parameters on the CCF (car configuration file) but only a few ones.
For those interested to modify ANY and ALL parameters of the CCF, from inside the current/newer versions of SDD - much more elegant from my point of view - I can provide you with a method that will allow you to do what you want with the CCF.
Download this file. Password: modify_ccf_from_sdd
Backup the same files from SDD's "......\XML" folder and replace with these ones.
Then restart the SDD and start a new session. Starting a new session is important because the SDD makes a backup of the current session and many things are took from there when diagnosing the car.
Then use the "Modify the current Car Configuration File" option from the Service Functions.
Take note that any later DVD software update will overwrite/rewrite by default the same files, so you need to preserve them in a way and replace again.
Below, for those who know what I am talking about, it's a printscreen that shows the proof/ability to modify/personalize any CCF option, all done from inside the SDD (printscreen showing DVD134 CCF editing section and sorry, it's for editing L359 CCF, but the process is the same)

You need the SDD, a SDD compatible interface and the mod described.... That's all.
What I posted is a mod for that software, software that now is pretty accessible to the enthusiasts, for allowing them a much wider range of possibilities for modding their cars.
Of course, some will say that SDD it's difficult to use and tie you to a laptop.
Indeed, at first could be frightening, but after you know it well and apply it a few tweaks will be the most up to date diagnostic and programming tool on the market for all JLR's models... (JLR will take care of that, after all it's their tool, isn't it? )

i was convinced you need an engineering code to do so (to enter engineering mode)
as most of the boxes are still grey (if you now what i mean )

If SDD is recognizing your interface like a compatible/accepted one, then yes, you can edit the CCF.
I've posted a couple of posts above a document with the compatible interfaces.

For allowing CCF's modification, indeed, you need to have the correct level of access.

First is the program itself and the last contains all firmwares (calibration files like LR use to call them) for all ECUs and all AS-BUILT files up to file's date date.
But be aware that the program will only function for 24h without a valid (paid) subscription that must be entered online. Just like a demo, in a way.
The earlier versions of the DVD allowed you to enter a combination of user/password for allowing you off-line access. Just google the net for DVD129, DVD130 or DVD131 user/password and you'll find them.
Also the 24h period and the level of access could be avoided, but this is another issue that really touches the reverse engineering and copyright stuff issues and shouldn't be discussed over a forum.
I, for one, am using a Mongoose interface, which comes with all the needed software to fully enjoy the full and unrestricted functionality of the SDD. And it was only 60 USD... I can PM you the details if you're interested .

In response to the above (which I have moved here):
The SDD thread has been removed from view for review by me regarding some of the content, which appears to promote working around the JLR licencing requirement (i.e. 'cracking' the SDD software).
You will all know I take a dim view of piracy, so on that basis I need to tidy up the thread before it is reinstated.
