A weeks holiday, what to do?? |
|
I have a weeks holiday coming up, 15-24th Nov, and am thinking about packing the D3 up and hitting the road and doing a bit of exploring.
Problem is, don't really know where or what to do? Just like the idea of taking in the sights and maybe exploring a few track or routes.
Looking for suggestions from folk as to where I could head to.

Well head to north Wales...between the 14th-17th the WRC Rally Wales is hitting town... I'm going and taking the G4 as the perfect recce / spectator vehicle..... And will probably be rescuing lesser mortals stuck on the verges in their Focuses and mondeos.....
Should be spectacular this year!

Appledore Penninsula. Fantastic and I believe is still classed as a wilderness.

Lake District , North Yorkshire both great places.
Or just fill up and head in whatever direction your facing
Then see where you end up

West Coast would be my choice. Start by crossing the Clyde to Dunoon and then ferry from Portavadie to Tarbert. After that work your way North, maybe use Calnac Island Hopscotch tickets and take in a few Islands. Just don't look at the price per litter when you fill up!

Having spent the previous week in Devon and Cornwall, and the last week back home in Argyll, I can recommend heading south at this time of year - there is a difference in the weather, and all the usual lanes are very very quiet! Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
Previously:
TD5 Defender 110 CSW (230k miles)
300TDi Disco 1 (289k)
4 RR Classics (300-350k each, 2 manual, 2 auto)
110 V8 CSW (220k)
S3 109 hi cap pickup (ex RN)
S2A 88 Safari SW with lpg conversion (bloody lethal)

Thanks very much for the replies guys,
@ Farmer Chalk, I like the sound of the rally wales, not been to a rally since Mull last year, that could a good start. I may send you a pm closer to the time to see what your plans are, if you do not mind.
Euangibson, with the kitcar we have an annual pilgrimage to Applecross, usually with a run round to Shieldaig and round the peninsula. However I have not been any further north. So May head over the pass, if it still open, and then could keep falling the coast.
Not been round to portavdie for a while, last night I was round there I got hit on the head by a pheasant at 40mph in the kitcar. We have a caravan at loch sween, Argyll, so have covered a bit of that neck of the woods.
Like the sound of lakes district and Yorkshire, are there may green roads route around? These could be next point if I was to head to north wales for the rally.
As for further south, I don't know a lot about the Deep South.

Thanks for that Dave, hoping to have the disco built back up today and ready for the road next week, so I could be up for this if everything goes ok and I can get a holiday for that day as well. Hope us wouldn't mind a tag along at the back?
