Not a good start!!

Picked up the new HSE this afternoon at 3.15pm at 4:30pm whilst showing the wife the car, charging system light wouldnt go out. Awaiting Land Rover Assistance to turn up. Done less than 25 miles, not impressed.

Anyone had this fault?

Were you on the move with the Missus, or just idling at home (if you see what I mean)?

Burdocks, bad luck but not surprising - electronics are a problem - fingers crossed you may be lucky and only encounter a few. Laughing

Moving with the missus

"Moving" with the missus in the drive is not something I've ever tried, I'll wait to the neighbours are out first I think - there's only one full moon in a month I think!! No, I gave her the keys and said you have a go, she started it and then said why hasn't this red light gone out.

Two hours later still no Land Rover Assist, I rang them, again, and they said somebody would be along in the next 45 to 60 mins. They are unsure whether the LR Assist that's on the way will be able to resolve the problem as he does not have a Diagnosis System, the local guy with the Diagnosis System doesn't start work until 7:00am tomorrow morning.

Start it up and give it a few decent "revs" and then let it drop back to idle (3,500-4,000 rpm on the "revs"). Then see if the light remains on - or if it goes off and then comes back on again.

The chap who is enroute will probably just check the alternator output. If that is working okay, which is simple to check, it may be a loose connection somewhere. The diagnostic computer shouldn't be required as the red light is only telling you that more juice is coming out of the battery than going in.

Fixed

No diagnosis system needed. Assist guy turned on main beam and hazards, putting charging system under load. Charge Light now turns off. It was suggested that the ECU was getting it's bearings - I ll certainly give it directions if it does it again.

In the words of the Godfather of soul, "I feel good" and I'm off to play.

Sounds like a possible case of insufficient or rushed PDI.
I'd have thought something like that would have picked up by the dealer pre-delivery, as you suggest it may have just been the systems settling in but if the dealer had left if running for a while or taken it for a road test I suspect they would have picked the issue up.

Hopefully the last of your issues, go and enjoy yourself Very Happy

Where abouts in Hampshire are you?

PS. Hope to see you joining us in the mud soon Thumbs Up

Rushed PDI could have been the problem. Originally I had arranged to pick the car up on Thursday, however, due to business commitments the dealer agreed that I could pick it up today.

I'm just south of Andover.
