bumper off or not lol

hey all,

just after a bit of advice rearly.,...

had an idiot reverse into the front of our new D4. Number plate smash and just above that a scuff of about a half a foot long slam in the middle of the bumper.

Most of it would pretty much buff off (a lot of the paints from there car) and is barely noticeable.

Now the insurance has agreed to pay no probs with no effect to our policy. Local repairer (used before) seemed very good.
I was expecting a quote £175-200 ish
Anyways quote came in £350 so ok fair dos BUT when I asked what was involved he said they will remove all the bumber, spray the whole thing etc etc

Now this seems rather excessive for something that is barley much more than a small scuff Confused maybe they are just bumping up the amount to do for the insurance but would you bother as I always thought having panels removed / sprayed isn't the best thing to be doing....

Or am I being overly picky ???

any advice guys....

cheers
og

I would go for two options only:

new replacement bumper if original is damaged in any way

or proper detailing of existing one if no physical damage to bring the claim down to the min

that's fair call,
but its more about having the front end of the car ripped off and having the bumper completely resprayed when there seems such a small scuff that's not that visible Confused

Cant believe the finish will be a long lasting the the LR one and tjhats if they put they bumper back on correctly Laughing

Confused

If your hesitant on having the work done, you could always ask the Insurer for a “cash in lieu offer” which may be the full repair cost excluding the VAT element, and then polish it out yourself. This could also save the Insurer any possible loan car cost for the duration of your repair so they are generally amenable to this.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the future, it could happen again and to the degree you may need a new bumper next time. Thumbs Up

Wish I'd taken a cash offer after a silly woman in a Honda Jazz ran into the back of me, (I think she was texting). Her car was deemed uneconomical to repair but mine had a tiny scratch on the painted bit of the rear bumper.

The insurance insisted and the whole rear bumper was replaced. Endless trouble after that... rattles, rear PDC intermittent, poor fitting etc. Took almost a year before a main dealer decided the whole PDC loom needed to be replaced. Cost me money because we couldn't prove the body shop had damaged the wiring!

Anyway, all sorted now but I wish I'd chosen £50 and the scratch !!! Big Cry

"Cash in lieu" is technically illegal!
£350 is nothing, it'll take them a good day so I'd say its cheap!
Think about when you come to sell it. Honestly some people moan fir the sake of it! Get over it. Insurance is paying

I had a guy reverse in to my front bumper, split the plastic and bent. Mobile bumper repair company reshaped it and fixed the split, resprayed over repair, you would never know it had been touched £60 all in Thumbs Up
