Adaptive headlights... do I have them? |
|
Ordered the above as an extra along with a few other bits. First time had the car out last night in the dark.... and am wondering if they've been fitted .... how can you tell?
My Land Cruiser had them and it was quite noticeable the headlights 'swivelling' when going round tight corners .... have to say I can't notice them at all....on this LR?
What I do notice is some sort of 'side/corner' light coming on briefly when I turn the steering wheel - or is this a standard function anyway with or without adaptive lights?
I didn't notice any swivel up and down when the headlights came on as I was distracted lowering the car from off road height (parked in car park) to access mode ... for elderly passenger.
Any thoughts please 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I have been wondering the exact same thing!
I ordered the adaptive xenons too and am struggling to see any kind of movement from the beams. As Dannyson says, I can notice the cornering lights quite easily, but having done a few country lane runs in the dark to test the adaptives I'm really struggling to notice anything. I've therefore started to wonder whether a) they've not been fitted or b) I need to turn them on in some way.
Any help much appreciated!

but there....
...as you go around a roundabout they are illuminating where you'll be as opposed to the pavement or verge
....when you get used to them you miss them on vehicles that haven't got cornering BREXIT - done properly.

Hmm... so subtle I have yet to detect it.... but only been out once in the dark (not usually allowed out in the dark...)... so will have another go soon .... maybe turn the car round to face the garage door (which it can't get into.... obviously!)..... and see if it does a 'little wiggle' on start up... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

The D3 ones on start up are very noticeable. Even when stationary a bit of movement on the wheel gets them moving left and right.
Maybe new D4 ones are more subtle, but too much and they aren't adaptive.

My old D3 ones did a 'dance' on start up - don't have them on the D4 so don't know but would've thought the 'dance' would still be present?

If you look at the sticker on the top of each headlight it should say "AFS" if it's an adaptive unit. It does on the D3 anyway. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Following the tips from this thread, I tried again last night and can confirm that it is definitely more noticeable with full beam on. Interestingly though, once I'd noticed it with full beam on this actually made it more obvious to notice with full beam off. I compare it to one of those magic eye pictures - you can look and look for ages and see nothing, but then when suddenly you do notice it you can't believe how you couldn't see it before!!
I can also see the "wiggle" at start up, but it is definitely very slight and quick.

I've got them on the loaner that the dealer has given me until Tuesday. I had to go out and give them a go over the last couple of nights and I'm going straight back to my dealer and adding them to the order!! (apparently it will still be "spec amendable" until early next week). Definitely more noticeable on main beam, but hugely impressive and I like the side facing lamps a lot.

With it being pretty rural around here, I use main beam a lot. But it needs oncoming traffic to come into view (dazzling them for a split second), it's none too quick to go back to main beam and I've still got to dip it manually for pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists. Just got the order updated to include the adaptive lights though 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

I have 2010 D4 HSE without Adaptive - does anyone know the upgrade path? Is it simply to exchange the headlights for the adaptive versions and have someone re-code it?
Many thanks for the help
