Never done it but seen it on here that the brake release needs "pulling til you think it will break" or words to that effect..

Cheers team. I am confident I didn't put it on in first place. I have yanked it hard, maybe I will turn it up to 11.
Does feel like it is in park.
If it is how do I get it out in the state its in?

If you jack a rear wheel and it is locked solid the PB is on, it it moves slightly in either direction but no further it's being held by the parking pawl.
The easiest way to release the PB is to straddle yourself between the front seats, and using a strong bar or screwdriver pull hard on the release cable until you hear and feel the PB release. If it's in P at the transmission and not shifting correctly, release the cable from the pivot arm on the d/s of the box and move the arm by hand.
Chock the wheels before attempting any of the above!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I have yanked the life out of the park brake release cable. Confident I didn't turn it on in first place.
Neutral on gear shift however.....
I have pressed the release and overridden the lock to change it to neutral. I suspect the the shifter says neutral but car is not listening?.
I wish to avoid reconnecting battery etc due to amount of components removed.
Really can't understand why I can't just roll mt car along merrily?

If still in park is the problem, you could crawl under and release linkage on the gearbox, then find neutral by moving the control arm. I think it is one click back from fully forward.Chris

Was the e brake.
Reconnected some harnesses and battery.
Tried turning off. No dice.
Tried turning on, big screechy screechy and now released.
Cheers team. Job for another day.

Ahh, had this issue while in France with the caravan (3rd day into the trip) didn't fancy cutting the cables... Luckily enough it was free enough to move in low range, long story short I moved it enough to line up the hole on the hub and release the tension bolt with a screwdriver.
Drove it without the handbrake until I could change the module back in blighty. A lot of care taken where parking - level ground, always leaving in low ratio P when not driven throughout the rest of the trip and caravan handbrake also used

Oh wow.
Mine is currently tits on sticks so not really an issue right now.
I am however very curious as to how it came on in the first place.

ISTR (but most likely wrong) that there is a setting in the CCF (May only apply to manuals though) where the epb comes on when you stop... I know I had this function disabled on my last car as it was a pain...I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

You might be right, but this is auto and as there are zero hills round here I never put it on.
Never had it come on by itself.
Very strange I reckon. And the manual release didn't work.
