18" wheels and tyres - Compomotive PD1880 |
|
Having read a few threads on this forum and on the Aulro forum, I am considering fitting 18" wheels and tyres on my 2013 Discovery 4. I am planning to purchase the 18" Compomotive rims. (I would go for the 255/60R18 tyres, which have almost exactly the same overall diameter as the original 255/55R19 and which would not necessitate to recalibrate the vehicle).
I have a few questions:
-Is such downsizing legal here in Europe ? (I live in Belgium but imagine legislation is at least similar in the UK)
-With the 18" Compomotive rims, I understand the rims are very close to the brake calipers. Is this OK ? Is there a minimum clearance that needs to be respected ?
-Do I need to inform my insurance company of such changes ?
If anyone who has done this can share his/her experience, I'd be very grateful!

In UK not illegal but the insurers might class it as a mod and if so should be informed and may (or may not) charge. This will vary from insurer to insurer.
