Should I Buy This Car?
Okay, I was looking at ordering a new MY14 Discovery to last me until the new model (D5?!) is out, but I learned last night that my Dad's neighbour is selling his Discovery 4 and has offered me first refusal on it. This would obviously save a whole bunch of money over the MY14 car, whilst still being a great place to be.
A local dealer has offered him £19k for it, and I believe he is willing to let it go for £18k, with it having a full LR service history and 60k miles on the clock. My question is firstly, is that a good deal at that price? I know 60k miles is quite a bit for a 2011 car, but that doesn't bother me; these are modern vehicles and that's nothing!
I haven't looked over it yet, but on the surface it seems in really great condition. One thing I am not sure of is exactly what model (trim level) it is! Typing the registration number into the MyCarCheck iPhone app presents the below result. On the boot lid it just says SDV6, with no trim designation after it (XS, HSE etc.). Peering through the windows reveals it has full leather and sat nav etc., so I'm a bit confused! Is there any way I can find out exactly what it is any what options were fitted from the factory? If I get the VIN number and enter it into TOPIx will that do the trick? Anyone work for LR who could provide any extra info?
For reference, at the bottom is the result of another (random) Discovery 4 on the same app.
One last question: it has the side step things fitted, but I don't like them. Are they easily removed?
Many thanks!

If no model designation on the back might mean it's a pauper level GS???

Nah, mine says "GS". And have you ever seen a GS spec with leather and satnav?

Thanks for the replies so far, guys. I ran the VRM through the askMID website and it says it's a GS! Is it possible to spec up a GS with leather etc. then? I wonder why it's described as a 'Light 4x4 Utility' rather than 'Estate' on the check I did? It's almost as if it's a Commercial, except it's clearly not!

As he's friends with my Dad and I guess £18k must be the figure he had in mind all along. He's had it from new and knows I'd keep it nicely, as he has done.

It's possible to spec anything onto a model, and yes it could be a GS with leather and sat-nav added as extras (can't be much price difference between that and an XS though!). Someone cleverer than me will be able to work it out from the VIN if you've got it. Why not just ask your Dad's neighbour??

At that price/miles and given what your app thing says it must have started out as a specced up commercial? You can spec leather, sat nav etc on a commercial if you want.
For a non commercial GS at that age/mileage the trade in is too low so something doesn't add up.
If you really want to be sure, get the VIN and run it through topix.

I'll ask him when I get a chance - just thought I'd enquire on here first.

Seems very cheap i'm sure the cap price is about £22k plus it has leather, check the approval type on the dvla site.
