Soft Paint question - Santorini Black
Has anyone else noticed that Santorini Black paint seems very soft and easy to scratch?. We live down a narrow lane and even the impact of summer weed growth on the sides of the car scratches the paint.. This not due to hard growth in the hedge, but stuff like cow parsley!...
Do the new paints harden with age?. The car is only 6 months old.. so wondered if it will improve..

It is probably only scratching the clear cote lacquer
If water hides the scratches it will polish out, if not
You've got what is commonly known as bush rash
and the weeds are stronger than what you think.
Get some polish on it to protect the clear cote after
Removing scratches, OMO detailers will prob tell you
better way to do it Always walk behind a Shooter and
In front of a Sh*ter

I have no experience of the D4 paint but I would it's just the colour that shows up everything. My java black D3 shows the lot even after a wash it will show heavy handed cleaning.

Thank guys ref feedback, I agree the colour is good at showing everything...I will keep a look at it over the summer.. Maybe the paint will eventually harden up... In the mean time I have walked along the lane to our house ( from main road ) cutting back the greenery that hangs out... I guess there is a first for everything, never had to do this before for a cars paint..

^^^Yes
When I first got the car the front passenger door was a constant target for malicious twigs leaping out from the hedges and seemed to be magnetic - attracting other people's car doors on a regular basis. I've still got a scratch that stubbornly refuses to polish out
However, now the car is a year old the buttery soft paint seems to have toughened up a bit and new scratches are less frequent and easier to polish out.

My Santorini Black Disco is coming up for it's first years service so I have been looking around for any faults. Apart from the one's put in by the Land Rover design team I have found none apart from that the paint seems very susceptible to scratchces. I regularly drive up a lane with brambles either side and this is what is causing it. I know the disco is slightly wider than my old Saab but it didn't scratch like this one. If I could prove the paint is soft then I would take it further with the garage. Has your paint hardened?

At the cost & the calibre of the vehicle in question....I would be troubling my supplying dealers BIG STYLE....at 6 months old I believe you may have a genuine claim for complaint....
get a definitive answer...you will live with the compromise as long as you have the D3
I thought my Lugano Teale D3 was a soft paint car....over the years I now realise it isn't....
I have found that use of a good sealant (I use Meguairs Polymer...there are many others) really pays off...I am very careful where I was & clean my D3 & whats used to clean this...dont use a brush at any cost either micro fibre mitt & two buckets or a jet wash at a realistic distance (wasn't sure about this but now converted).
The Meguairs:
- step 1 swirl remover (works on black paintwork very well - had two black cars ...never again..sorry!)
- Ultimate Compound (this is a wonder product that never fails to amaze me)
- Scratch Remover (works on the deeper stuff...& doesn't remove paint or lacquer)
are awesome in taking out the slight marks you get in normal / real life vehicle use...I realise that your wheel arch eyebrows are painted...is it these that are getting marked ?
Soft paint is one thing...I had a Volvo with the opposite - brittle paint that cratered if you even looked at the car...a nightmareBREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
