Top tip "engine systems fault" P062B.

Hi all,

Searching the forum bit haven`t seen anything on the topic.

My 2011 D4 got a "engine systems fault" while driving on a highway a week ago. A first diagnostic showed fault P062B.

Turns out a drain hole underneath the batttery and ECU was plugged with leaves/muck and so water had built up and led to the ECU giving issues.

Was solved by a careful clean at a cost of 600 euro and all fault codes now cleared and gone. Had it been worse the ECU would have shorted out.

Could well be worth checking out to prevent major faults/costs.

Jackie-O thanks for the tip - I am somewhat bemused...

600 Euros to clean the drain hole underneath the battery and clear fault codes.

That sounds expensive.

What please does this involve, as I would like to check that the drain hole in question on my car isn't going this way; but if it costs c. 600 Euros to do there is clearly more to this than meets the eye.

How do I do it?

Hi NJSS,

So the cost of EUR 600 was for 4 hours of work (two hours finding the problem and two hours for fixing it).

If you know what your are looking for it should be a pretty simple job i think.

The garage had already put everything back together by the time i picked up the car but apparently the battery and ECU are mounted onto a plate and somewhere in this area there is a drain hole to let water escape.

The ECU was now partly submerged so he had to take it out and give it a good but careful clean. But luckily it had not shorted.

I´m not quite sure why there was so much water coming in in the first place, could be that the rubber seal on the back end of the engine bay toward the windscreen may need replacing soon...

Hope that helped!
