Quote:Needless to say, the dealership claim they never touched the battery.
They really are barefaced liars, the battery has to be removed along with other gubbins to access the rear belt. Give them both barrels! Stu

Interesting- so having replaced both timing belts, done a full service including a "health check", then the water pump "falling off" within a day, and having to replace it along with the auxiliary belt - is there no question at all that the main dealer must have disconnected the battery at some point?
It sounds as if they had to not just disconnect it but actually remove it, which ties in with the AA saying the battery housing hadn't been properly replaced.
Is there a workshop manual/topix schematic setting this out?
So the technician who carried out the timing belt replacement made not 1 but 2 mistakes... removing the water pump bolt & then not seating either battery terminal on its pole correctly when replacing the battery! The only positive thing is that the power failure did not occur 10 miles earlier at speed on the dual carriageway!

If they didn’t take the battery off they didn’t change the rear belt It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Perish the thought M3DPO
... they must just have some magical method of accessing the rear timing belt without removing the battery & regard their technicians as expendable if the battery shorts

M3DPO/Disco Mikey - after formally complaining, the dealership has now backed down from their original emphatic claim that they hadn't touched the battery at all when replacing the timing belts and the water pump, and now claim that they only took the negative terminal off but did NOT remove the battery! Wonder how they managed to deal with the bolt behind the battery tray to access the rear belt, as it either needs to be removed as noted in previous posts or it doesn't !...

The battery HAS to be removed when doing the rear belt,as well as some of the plastic around the battery box, not for access to the bolt on the pipe but for the all cables that are secured to the bracket that needs to be removed. Also there are more plugs and the PCM connections that need to be removed so you can do the above to gain access to the belt cover.

Pretty much word for word, as above. It's physically not possible to get enough movement on the breather pipe, and the bolt onto the LH head needs removing to gain access My D3 Build Thread
