Time to replace alternator

Just been quoted over £1000 to replace the alternator on my 2010 TDV6 LR4

They say the time to replace is 6 hrs which they got from some website they use.

Looking at the various videos showing this job I estimate a simple swap out at 1.5 hrs.

Am I wrong or are they seriously trying to rip me off?

Well you need to run away from that place, even if you have never done one before, it should not take any longer than 1,5 hours.
The D4 alternator is not as easy to access as the D3, but 6 hours is taking the Censored .

Taking the ...

I've told them to go away and think again, waiting for a response.

Likely I'll just get them to charge the battery, no doubt they'll charge a fortune for that, and take it to another garage that has estimated £365 +vat

I paid £450 for a new alternator in January. Actually, I paid £50 and Warranty Direct paid the rest.

Job took 2 hours, judging from the labour charge.

Well, surprise call back, yes time is wrong should be 2 hrs but they still want £380+vat for the alternator "but that might change because there are 3 possible fitments for that engine" Now my investigations show only one Denso part and two other makes, RTX and Lucas, but the fitment is the same.

Only fit the Denso one as the others cause problems.
