Is it time to part?
Hi. I've owned my D3 now for 6 years and thinking of trying to find a replacement. Not an easy decision
She (2.7 Metropolis 2006) has started racking up maintenance costs which have been a little steep this last 12 months together with the running costs even though I keep it well maintained like SWMBO
The thing is, there is nothing out there which comes anywhere near the practicality, good looks, comfort & most importantly for me storage capacity the Disco offers.
Believe me, this is by far the best vehicle I've owned over the past 40 years and it'll be like loosing one of the family if I was to part company. Strange that you get emotional over a crafted piece of metal and plastic
I find myself now looking at the new Rivian R1S It's a little drastic but it is a sign of the times, plus it looks very much like a Discovery (wheel arches upwards). I'm thinking, should I put down the $1000 refundable deposit and see?
What to do is the question. Keep on shelling out or take the plunge in 12 months time

maintenance of an old vehicle will generally be dwarfed by depreciation on a new vehicle.
I guess it depends if you're wanting to change due to cost, or if it's becoming unreliable.

Yes next year. 380 mile range if you believe the figures. Probably 300+ in reality.
Nearly 150k miles on the disco now and the reliability is dropping like a stone.

I totally get where you are coming from. I really Love EV's
My mind has been turning to converting a D3 to 100% electric. however the ECu's present a real challenge!
OOI What is the Rivian towing capacity going to be rated at? The Bollinger was 7.5t? iirc?
100% agree ref the Best ever vehicle being the Disco 3. Nothing beats it!
I have moved to an Electric van and we have a EV car on order... so will be selling the Disco. I will be Land Roverless for the first time in 20+years!

I too have been thinking about paying the $1,000 refundable deposit - but can't see where to do this for a UK spec. car, to be delivered in the UK.
Maybe I'm missing something
