Had transmission service done ,everthing is as good as new,no shudder and gear shifts as if it was new.There was a problem with atf leak around new sump, after a couple of attempts problem was resolved, a white plastic disperser was the culprit once removed all was good. Thans for all the replies.

I've had a shudder for about a year now. Its not major, just slowly building, with a slipping slightly sometimes when cruising - you can see it on the rev counter. Done 265,000km. Always serviced by Land Rover dealer hence never had any new tranny oil!!! I'm being told need a recon tranny $7500!!! Is this right or will an oil change still work at this age?

Worth trying a atf change if doesn't work try Dr Tranny.

I would be asking the dealer about this - the ATF is meant to be changed during the 240,000 km service. If they did change the ATF and you still have the shudder, than as Caver says... Dr Tranny may be the last chance before the expensive recondition job.

Dr tranny $17 from bursons parts parramatta.
My 2005 with 155,000 Kms feels like new and the shuddering that started 10,000kms back has disappeared.
The guy at bursons say they sell 3-5 tubes a week to the local transmission specialists. Jul 04 Build TDV6 HSE Car #466 , Reversing Camera, Front Brembos Rear V8 brakes, Allisport intercooler, D4 Bluetooth and the odd S/W upgrade courtesy of the Faultmate MSV-2

I had my ATF a few months back and didnt help with the shudder - went away temporarily but its still there (around 30-40km/h) - i live with it now but would love to get it resolved. does Dr tranny require mechanic to apply?

2 ways to apply from what I have read here. Depends on your skills.
1. Via the pipe that goes to the cooler in the radiator. you have to let the AT fluid in the pipe go down to give enough room to ad Dr Tranny. It can take some time. Some leaving it overnight. I used a foot pump to accelerate this a little (Dont know how how applying pressure is a good or a bad thing so kept light) so the job took me about 30 mins. 10 minutes of work and 20 minutes of waiting.
2. Via the fill hole on the side of the transmission. I believe engine needs to be running.
Both methods are described elsewhere in the forum.
Also I know Ayres Automotive at Brookvale are now believers having solved a few problems with this product. They now stock it. You could ring them to see how much they charge to do it for you. But did they do a "basic" ATF change or a "mega-flush" - if the former less than half of the oil would have been changed.
If you did not get a mega flush done I would get it done and get the appropriate amount of Dr Trannie put in.

I have 160,000 with no ATF change and Dr Tranny did the trick.
I will do a fluid change shortly. But rather than add Dr Tranny there is another product from from Lubeguard called ATF Protectant that they recommend be used instead with an fluid change.

Can we assume that this product just introduces slippage into the friction surfaces ?
Be interesting so see how much temp increase that causes , or for that matter , how fast the whole transmission will fail under towing ........

From what I've read, the product contains esters/solvents, which removes the glazing from clutch plates, mechatronic valves, etc.

They did full flush so would you suggest that i go back and get Dr Trannie put int without any more flushing?

lukesky7 - you might want to check what they actually did!
When you drain the sump, there is still old ATF in the oil cooler lines, as well as about 5L in the torque converter. So when they put the new ATF in, it gets mixed with the old oil. This is why they usually perform a "double flush" - where they replace the first lot of oil again, after a certain amount of driving. (Usually between 200-1000km).
The other method is what Garry mentioned - the "mega flush". This is where they drain the sump, replace pan/filters, then instead of just filling from the fill hole in the gearbox, they remove one of the ATF coolant lines and pump fresh oil through until it comes out clean from the other end of the cooler hose.

Hello all,
I have a 2005 D3, TDV6. My transmission has been doing something similar for a while.
Under acceleration load the car shudders, and I also notice the tacho wavers and there seems to be a "air escaping" sound when the revs dip.
Is this what others have experienced ?
Over a year ago, my dealer said I needed a new gearbox, or it might be worth trying a new pan and oil change, but could not guarantee it would fix it. I ended up moving away from the dealer for service for a number of reasons, and the gearbox is still going, albiet with this issue.
Have I left it too long to try the flush ?
