throttle not responding

Chaps

I've now had this situation 5 fives, but extremely intermmitant. First two were, cruising at approx 65mph, on a light throttle, put foot down to increase speed, no response! Foot on and off the gas a few times, and away she went. OK then for a couple of weeks, then the same again, just once, then another gap of a week, and the same again. Then, yesterday, I was pulling away from some traffic lights, pulled OK in first, changed up to second, off the clutch, on the gas and nothing! Dropped the clutch so that it wouldn't stall, again pushed the gas pedal a few times until it revved clean again, and away we went. No smoke, so it doesn't look like fuel getting in but not burning, just the throttle action not "being responded to" (if that makes sense)

ideas?

thanks
Al

sounds like either fuel rail temp. sensor or an air leak on the induction ductwork

The effect you describe sounds just like the problems I'm having (loss of power) but in my case it seems mostly to happen just on starting or in the few moments thereafter (occasionally acceleration has been sluggish too). That's discussed in the thread on TDV6 Glowplugs ( http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic16749.html ).

Bit of a long shot, but I get this problem on a regular basis with transit vans. Could it be the throttle potentiometer on the pedal?????

My loss of power has been put down to a sticking "exhaust feedback valve" (more details in the TDV6 Glowplugs thread linked above).

What is an "EGR valve", Hobbs? Is that the same thing?

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. Probably is the same valve as your problem espri(there are 2 of them on the TDV6), if it, or they, stick open, or open when they shouldn't, the turbo boost pressure is dumped into the exhaust, giving a drastic loss of power.( I know ,because I had a Freelander TD4 that did this to me many times whilst pulling out on to main roads, I was just lucky a juggernaut wasn't bearing down on me when it chugged away at a snails pace into fast moving traffic. Embarassed )

Slightly different to a TD4 as the Disco3 has a variable vane turbo (therefore no wastegate), a sticking EGR would mean that exhaust gases are sent back into the inlet manifold in unregulated quantities, thereby starving the engine of fresh air
