United Kingdom 2010 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Zermatt SilverDiscovery 4
Three months in

I have just completed three months and 2,000 miles in my new D4 HSE, so here are my observations:

What I like:

- Engine. The 3.0 is excellent, pulls very well, and does not sound or feel like a diesel at all.
- Interior. Very classy, well-laid out, extremely comfortable
- Versatility. Extremely useful vehicle for virtually any need.
- Weather performance. Flawless in the recent bad weather.
- Rear cargo area protector, bought off eBay. Keeps everything clean and can cope with muddy dogs or trips to the tip without marking anything! I can take it out, hoover it, and back to normal.
- Smart key. Actually a very good system.
- Storage space. Lots of places around the car to keep stuff tidy.
- Lights. Very good xenons, and I also find the high-beam assist works well.
- Driving position - excellent visibility.
- iPod connection - great sound system.
- DAB radio.

What I don't like:

- Fuel consumption. Definitely more than I expected.
- Navigation system. Much too complicated to use and the maps are nowhere near as clear as a £200 TomTom. Have had many completely bonkers directions from it, ie going off a main road, through lanes ... and back onto the main road again. A really weak feature.
- Bluetooth connectivity. Seem to have a mind of it's own - sometimes it connects, other times not.
- Parking the darned thing
- Sunroof. Doesn't open very far - not what I would call "panoramic" at all
- Washing it. I need a stepladder!

Overall, a great car and despite early misgivings I am pleased with the choice. I still feel that Ebony is a far better interior for keeping smart ...

Good set of comments......thought I might add mine to yours.......if that's O.K. Done nearly 5000 now

What I like:

- Engine. I wish I could say the same, tat when my FBH wont start on these cold mornings mine sounds like a bag of old bolts while it's trying to warm up
- Interior. Absolutely!
- Versatility. Extremely useful vehicle for virtually any need.
- Weather performance. Totally sure footed.
- Rear cargo area protector I recommend the rigid protector to everyone
- Smart key. This works really well for me too
- Storage space. Always been good on Discos
- Lights. Fantastic lights, I use HBA all the time as well
- Driving position - This contributes to safety too.
- DAB radio. I love this to death!! Crystal clear, fantastic glitch free reception all over the country. how did i ever do without it?

What I don't like:

- Fuel consumption. Down to an average 22, frankly poor.
- Navigation system. Haven't used mine that much yet, but when I have it seemed O.K., although a couple of times it has sent me off a dual carriageway onto the roundabout above it and then back on again!!!
- Bluetooth connectivity. With various Blackberrys mine has worked without the slightest problem
- Sunroof. I wish you could delete the opening sunroof from the HSE spec, never use them, too much buffeting on a modern car.
- Washing it. I need a stepladder! x 2!

Glad I picked Ebony too.

Overall I'm still chuffed, although the battery level thing might start to make me cross soon. Innovation is a great thing but sometimes LR seem to try just a little too hard. I think the new battery management system and smart alternator might have gone a little too far.

Ill add to this even tho ive only done about 500 miles so far.

What I like:

- Engine. i agree, a much needed low end mprovement on the 2.7v6. the 3.0l is a monster after a remap and i recon give any TDV8 a tun for its money.
- Interior. Very nice even though ive not got armrests Crying or Very sad
- Versatility. in the snow it was good fun Smile
- Smart key. perfect for me because i can lock my garage and security gate without having to turn the car off Mr. Green
- Storage space. agreed loads of room especially compared to my old RRS.
- Lights. my halogens are not as good as i thought but ive nearly finished a HID upgrade so all will be good.
- Driving position - excellent.
- iPod/iphone connection - great sound.
- Bluetooth connectivity. good after a iphone software downgrade.
- DAB radio - very clear and crisp sound.

What I don't like:

- I miss the 20" wheels over the factory 19" ones, i should have upgraded to 20" when i orderd the car really.
That said its still very very firm on its feet when giving it some.

- Fuel consumption. - more than I expected also, that said its still very low miles.
Im getting 22-23ish i think but not taking it steady and lots of short runs.

- Navigation system. Yes a bit fiddley to use and the POI is comlicated, the worst is it does not have my house on and ive lived here for 12 years and the house is 50 years old but it still thinks there are only 19 houses in my street yet i live at nearly 300 LOL

Im happy as a pig in poo with it to be honest, i thought id miss my RRS HSE but infact i actually prefer the D4, its got more power and responce than a tuned 2.7 i think drives better and a overall a much better car for me personaly.

A few other points come to mind:

- the rear centre vents don't seem to do anything at all - anyone know how to get any air out of them?
- the heated front screen is fantastic this weather
- the heated seats get very toasty and should have automatic heat reduction after a while
- the heated steering wheel is a real luxury this cold weather
- HDC is also very reassuring on the steep hills around here in icy and ungritted conditions

On the D3, the heated seats go from 2 lights to one light after a while, otherwise you start getting a toasted buttock!!!!!!!
Would have thought it should do on the d4. How long have you left it on full heated seat for?

Heated seats on my D4 stay on at whatever level you start them at. Being a reptile, I am very happy with this Very Happy My Merc is always turning the heat down far too early Wink
Centre vents in general (front & back) don't seem to do anything much at all on the "Auto" setting. Need to actually select centre or defrost manually to get any decent air flow. This seems a bit odd to me as the rear passengers don't seem to get much in the way of heat/air (other than through the floor vents) when the system is in auto mode.
Heated steering wheel is absolutely Mr. Green

United Kingdom 2009 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 XS Auto Stornoway GreyDiscovery 4
!!

My D4 has done 4500 miles it is an XS 3.0 TDV6

Here are my lists:

Like
Engine - its got the power you need and is quiet
Interior - real luxury feel - more Range Rover than Disco
Key fob - convenient
ipod connector with full functionality
DAB Radio
Awesome off road ability, tested this winter in Yorkshire Dales
Heated windscreen
Lights
Front radiator grill (Range Rover look, Disco practicality!)
Load space - I got a double bed matress in when moving some furniture!

Dislike
Fuel - I cannot get 30 mpg!
Bluetooth - connects most of the time sometimes just refuses....no matter which phone, it is something to do with the transmitter
false alarms - gearbox fault; water in fuel.
Real alarm - low brake fluid, where did it go? I topped it up and it has stayed topped up
Faulty rubber boot on the electrical wiring between drivers door and main body resulting in two dealer trips for a warranty repair. It would have let water in.

All in all a great vehicle. I've owner loads of cars, the only 4X4 were Freelander 2 and Jeep Grand Cheroke....this is far better than those
