Hi DavidT
I was in exactly the same position as you and I considered the S with the leather option. I wasn't concerned about the sat nav etc.
However, if the finances allow, I can promise that the SE is definately worth the extra. The (leather) seats in the SE are completely different to the optional leather in the S and they are 100% better. The 18" wheels are much nicer too IMHO.
If you can afford it - get the SE.....
BTW, the worth of PDC shouldn't be dismissed too

I have been to a dealer today discussing finance options. According to the dealer on a PCP I could have a D3 to a value of £32K which he says would be an S spec auto with leather interior for about £550 per month on a 3 year deal but this would NOT be a new vehicle. He also quoted £630 per month on a SE spec auto with a value of £36K.
I have had a quote from a vehicle contract hire company for a PCP on a new S spec auto with leather trim, metallic paint and power folding mirrors for £548 per month. The same company has quoted £589 for an SE spec auto with power folding mirrors and metallic paint. Both on 3 year deals with a £1500 deposit.
So I think the dealer has some way to go if he wants my business.
To add to the pot I have also been quoted £459 for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 3.0 V6 diesel which has as standard leather, auto, metallic paint, electric memory seats, power folding mirrors and more.

The other thing I forgot to mention (but I see you have it covered) was that the Auto is worth every extra penny too.
My first choice was a manual S with leather option. Thank God for a re-think prior to committing to that one.
There is a point where it simply isn't worth skimping a few hundred (or even thousand) if you are not going to end-up with the car you really want.

So! What's your point?
I think a basic S would be better than that....

Dealers are the last place to go for credit.
Try Iain Marsh at Pacific Leasing on 0870 240 3727 or email [email protected] . Say "Matt West" recommended him.
I've financed through them, as have some of the RRS guys. They're very good. They don't just offer leasing. Matt

Tell Iain what car you want, how much you can afford each month and he'll work out a way of getting it. Matt

Depending on your circumstances etc. one method of "cheap" borrowing is to put the amount onto a repayment mortgage. Instead of paying the £500 per month (or whatever the amount is) to the finance co., you pay that amount into the mortgage. Overpaying a repayment mortgage can be the cheapest method of borrowing.
I worked out the figures once and was surprised at the savings, with typical mortgage rates being less than 5.0% it's worth you doing the maths.
You must have the self discipline to make the overpayments every month though.
Another potential plus, is that if you should get into financial s**t, you can resort to just paying the min. monthly amount, of course that will spanner up the cheap deal if you don't go back to overpaying!
A mortgage provider or adviser should do all the sums for you.

Kam on the RRS site is into finance, but he drives a skoda so he probably isn't to be trusted I bought mine in exactly the same way as LT discussed. I don't like all the balloon payment idea I just wanted to know how much and for how long and its at base rate. Best way is paying cash though DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I like the idea of a PCP type of arrangement. The way I see it is; you pay £500 a month for 36 months and hand the car back at the end of the period with nothing to pay or you pay £500 a month on a loan of 5 years, pay the loan off for 36 months and hope there is enough value in the car to pay off the outstanding loan amount which in my experience there never is so you end up out of pocket.

No I don't mean cash cash but no finance. PCPs to my mind are a wot and you are tied in on the finance treadmill, but as an investment adviser I'm probably biased DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
