We need some techie input.
PS If the HPFP or it’s belt had gone (hence just low pressure pump pushing fuel) what would the fuel pressure reading be?

Just tried to start it again and it sounds like whoshing noise as it turns over.
Plugged in the iid and it says fuel pressure 1850.
Tried to check the belt at the back but it’s so difficult to access.
all recent posts about crapshaft failure have said the engine won't turn … fingers crossed it's something less expensive.

Mine would turn and catch but it sounded like one very, very sick puppy.

Thanks guys.
Took off the filler cap and things were turning while I tried to start it.
I will get somebody to look at it. Now need to find somebody that knows what they are doing near me.

It would be about 6 or 7 psi

Sounds more valve related.
The whooshing appears to be when 1 particular cylinder comes round.
If it was crank, as long as it turned, you would still get ignition.

Hi Mo. Would it not try to fire even if one cylinder had lost a valve?
And is this common?

Yes it should and that is what surprises me.
Maybe worth trying it on the starter for a little longer just to see if it trys to catch.

Thanks
Not sure how common a dropped valve is.
I pulled up on the hard shoulder so it’s difficult to assess how loud it is.
But it did seem but I might be wrong to make a metal to metal noise when I tried to start the car. But it seems quieter now.
Its going in the garage tomorrow so will see.
Thanks
Sean

When I had my engine problems it was suggested by the knowledgable on here (10forcash? Was it? ) that the valve followers could be a problem and cause low compression, although we never did get to the exact cause, no point as there were no spares back then.
