Thanks to Onska Twine from Ikea.

If it was not for this string that my wife had bought, it might have taken me longer than the 2 hours it has just taken to fit the TowBar electrics.

I luckily remembered the instructions as I had lost them and it was quite straight forward until I had to thread the cable from the sockets to the rear light.

I should have cleaned the car beforehand.

Doing the job in the rain is miserable and I got filthy rain water mixed with under-car muck in my eyes.

I might of ruined a good pair of jeans.

The Twine was a mighty help for pulling the cables through with the aid of a coat hanger.

Ah! as I didn't have the instructions, I fitted and routed the black socket first only to find that the white one was too short. I'd got them the wrong way round Aaaaaarghhh!

I had to pull the longer cable out and start all over again and now its pouring with rain.

The fit is so tight that I cannot see how to or bother to sort out all the clips and ties. Has anyone else managed this?

Oh! and as a towbar newbie, which socket do I plug the lights from the bike carrier into, white or black?

Well all done now, just need to plug in the carrier to test.

all of the lights are routed through the black plug and you will find that the you can't inter change them, all of the circuits passing thro the white/grey plug are fro aux circuits for trailers / caravans

I was pressure washing mine underneath yesterday and noticed some wiring flapping free in the breeze behind the offside wheel, tucked above the chassis rails. I assuejm this is trailer wiring, or is there other loose cabling around the vehicle underneath.

It all looked a bit exposed and vunerable to something getting caught in the tyre??

Anyone had any problems due to that or shall I just ignore it and be careful when washing it in that area?

Cheers

Still wiping the grime off after being underneath the Disco. The trailer wiring runs from the back of the middle of the rear bumper to the nearside rear light so I'm afraid that I don't know what you have found.

Trailer wiring is cut to exact length so no slack at all.

I'm not sure how you're meant to push the clips into the top of the chassis rail under the rear bumper Confused I'd say it's impossible to do with the bumper in place. I even considered taking the bumper off until I realised what it entailed. Rolling Eyes

Still, it's been ok - was a bit worried the weights would rub if the wiring fell down the front of the rail, but it seems to have stayed in place ok.

I think that it is so tight, I almost couldn't get the cable from the white plug to connect, that there should be no danger of rubbing. Once it stops raining I will drop the wheel and try and have a better look.
