Yesterday, my wife pulled out at a busy junction to find she had very little power. She crawled home, parked the car on the drive and called LRA this morning. I spoke to the LRA guy on the phone and he told me he was running diagnostics which showed a faulty cam shaft sensor, but he also said that if this was the case then the engine should not be running.
Twenty minutes later my wife called to say he had test driven the car and told her "nothing was wrong it was just a one off, if it happens again call the dealer" and he left. 
My wife is a little annoyed to say the least.
Anybody got any ideas? Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

We had a problem where all power and drive was lost under heavy acceleration, but only happened on the odd occasion. Puting it into Park and then Drive sorted it.
LRA recovered it and said it was "the shift cable", brought it back repaired after a few days.
Could be a similar issue? 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

sounds a bit like the EGR valve problem, put your foot down and nothing, although usually clears if you lift off and put your foot down again.

Thanks Al. I suggested this to the LRA guy, but he said the diagnostics showed the EGR to be OK.
I was thinking about this because 10 had suggested there may be a problem with the EGR valve when I was complaining of a noisy engine in a previous thread. Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

This used to occur to me 2 years ago when exiting the Mersey Tunnel. Stopping the car and restarting cured the power loss. I put it down to some electronic beam (probably from the card reader) upsetiing the car's computer. Anyway, it hasn't occurred for a long time now.

EGR for certain - mine has same issue and waiting for new valve on back order @LR. Idle engine with bonnet up and lightly press accelerator & release, you will hear a clattering noise which is the valve shutting n closing like mad rather than staying shut!!.
Fault does not always show on fault reading from the computer.

Sounds like my EGR valves (there are two) I nearly got wiped out as I pulled out in front of a HGV then lost power. Driver was awake and did the best avoidance move I have ever seen.
My valves stuck open so no noise as simonis suggests.
Back order took 5+ weeks to get my car on the road again. Ironically I am back in exactly the same RR as I had in December and Jan ! "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Hi James,
If the camshaft sensor fails while the vehicle is running it will still run, but boost pressure control is disabled, thus reduced power. If it fails on startup the engine will not start.

I had a similar problem. Problem sorts if you stop, turn off, and restart - but this gets a fag after the sixth or seventh time, and losing power can be dangerous.
Dealer checked vehicle on the computer. "No fault sir! Bring it in though if it happens again."
Next time. "The computer says it's the crank sensor. We'll order the part and let you know."
Car goes in. "Not the crank sensor after all, sir. Computer says no fault. Should be OK. Let us know ...."
Driving in town near dealer with wife and five dogs, and it happens again. Limp into dealer. Had to wait until someone was available to have a look at it. Didn't turn the engine off. At last, after a drive round the block they acknowledge there is a fault. (Have they not believed me up to now?) Link it to computer. "It's the whole terrain response unit sir! We'll order the part."
Part arrives. Car goes in. Link to computer. "It's not the terrain response. It's the crank sensor (again!) We'll order the part (again). It's a two day job because the gearbox has to come out."
Crank sensor part arrives (again), car goes in. Job done. Three months later it hasn't happened again. It WAS the crank sensor.
Do they need a new computer?

Thanks John. It sounds like it is an uphill battle to get the dealer to acknowledge that there is a fault.
I have felt on several occasions that the dealer thinks I'm talking b*****ks when I discuss a fault with them. Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.
