I don't think the TDV8 is for posing, but I do think the TDV6 is under powered for a car this size. IMO it would be the icing on the cake, if they did the V8 I'd stick with the D3 as it stands I will change in 12 months or so. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

A V8 diesel equates to more power but it will also mean more fuel consumption and then means less range which excerbates one of Disco3's disadvantage. If LR can find another, say, 40litres, to add to the tank it would be ideal.
The alternative would be to increase the TDV6's capacity to 3 or 3.2litres which should add another 20 to 40kW for a modest fuel consumption increase. '06 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue

Those who want the TDV8 in the D3, consider this.......
Cost of trading-in your D3 for an (imaginary) TDV8 = £ five figures (and then some)
Cost of upgrading your engine to 240bhp with Turbochip / JE = £600 ish
Unless you have cash to burn, and to pay for the extra fuel = No brainer

I'd like a TDV8, but it's a moot point for me as I intend hanging onto this one for 10 years! Have a nice day!

Just to be cheeky, I ask those who voted YES to specify what they expect to do with the TDV8 that they couldn't do with TDV6...

Hi to all. Its great to know one small post can become so big. The only question that I would like to ask, after have 4 Range Rover, and the last one been a p38, will Rover/Ford do the same as they did to the P38. That is boring the block out to produce a get engine, but forgetting the movement in the sleaves, allowing the coolant to get into the bore, causing lots of problems. Rover/ford may have a fix for it for the V8TD, but compression will always be a problem with Diesel motors.

Ford don't have the answer, but Peugeot Citroen do! It isn't a bored out engine in the way the old buick one was it is a new engine, not just 2 extra cylinders bolted on. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I just read that the Aussie version of the TDV8 (RRS) will be about $110 000 which is just $25 000 more than the TDV6 RRS.
That definately puts it up out of reach for many prospective owners unless they want (and need) the extra power. Of course, LR should also be working on a larger fuel tank in any case as the V8 petrol engined versions of the RRS and D3 suffer in range capabilities when compared with all the other similarly equipped large 4WDs.
Applying the cost difference to the D3, a base model (if the TDV8 was to be made available in the base model) would hit the dealer's floor at no less than $91 000. That in itself will cause many a prospective owner to look to other makes if not a different engined version of the car.
But all that aside, Mossy, I would love to see a TDV8 version of the D3 in Australia and thanks for asking... LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

The guys on the Land Rover stand at the Sydney International Motor Show indicated that the Disco should have the TDV8 by 2009, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
As it happens my lease is up about then, but unless nothing else changes (therefore enabling me to move the thousands of dollars worth of accessories I have fitted to the current Disco 3 across) then I will not change over.
I wonder if a warranty claim for 2 missing cylinders would be entertained D3 (06) SE TDV6, Rear Locker, Rear Air, ARB bar w/winch, Safari Snorkel, 110l aux fuel tank, Kaymar rear bar (twin wheel carrier), Black Widow rear storage system, Rhino rack, GME UHF, Codan HF, IPF HID lights, CSA Explorer 17" w/BFG Mud Terrain KM2 - see Australian 4WD Monthly #103
