TDV6 Engines - 2.7 & 3.0 - differences |
|
We read from time to time of those needing to replace their 2.7 litre engines due to crankshaft problems.
What other engines would "drop in" - presumably a 3.0 from a D4; but what would have to do to fit this to a D3, and would one need to change the gearbox at the same time?

as the 3ltr is the twin turbo unit, I'm guessing quite a lot would be different - mainfolds, exhast, ECU's, wiring, etc, etc. Not impossible, but not a straight swap.

It's a lovely engine though, a lot smoother and more powerful than the 2.7. I couldn't afford a new D4 so will be looking at remapping my 2.7 as the poor man's upgrade! ____

Having, for various reasons, taken quite a lot of the under shielding off my D4 yesterday, there are quite a few visible differences in the "plumbing" - sump, exhaust run etc - but all the chassis cross members look to be in the same places (bolt holes in the D3 guards line up), so it might fit... However, after Pete Bell's efforts getting the TDV6 into a 90, I'd have thought a 3l into a D3 would be child's play for him!
