TDV6 diesel glow plug change? |
|
Hi.
Just wanted to ask has anyone changed glow plugs to D3 TDV6 diesel engine?
And if yes, is it a big program? Does anyone have any instructions (with torgues etc)?
In Finland it's starting to get below 0 and I want to make sure that my first winter with D3 goes without problems. Just changed new battery to it, because there was still original one fitted
Thanks in advance!

Its not a very nice job at all, if you register on LR GTR/Topix site the full how-to with some basic pictures on their, which will be better than a typed explnation.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum -- I'm sure you'll find it very useful!
How old is your car, what's the mileage, any early indications of glow issues?
I too bought a new battery this autumn, to replace the original battery in a car which is soon five years old.

Thanks.
Because I'm new to this site and new to LR also I'm not familiar with all the sites, yet
Where I can find that GTR/Topix site?

Sorry i didnt think
Here is the link to Topix, you can register for free, but then you can pay per car per day etc etc, its very cheap for 24hrs access ans you can most prob get all your cars info in the 24hrs to save for later keeping.
Its very good as you can download pictures and pdfs for use later.
Before you attempt the glow plugs it may be worth testing them electronicly before removing to save uneeded work changing them.

Thanks!
This is much-much more active than local sites and also the amount of information.. phui!
My D3 is -05 and there is about 152 000 km's on the odo.
It seems to run little bit rough idle when cold, but after about 2 mins, and with Webasto, it runs good and steady idle.
I changed the battery because there was few times that "Transmission Fault" and "Suspension Fault" was shown without any good reason. When new battery was in place there hasn't been any messages like that.
Does LR give good error codes from OBD port, such that it can be read and understud corretly? Something like "glow plug error" not like "E26716" etc

No worries!
That's really good info! Thanks!
I'll have to register, log-in and start downloading documents
Do you have any good tips how to test those glow plugs? Obviously I want to avoid unnecessary work, if possible.
With my old car, BMW 330D, I had TIS installed on to my PC and there is everything you need for that car. Part numbers could be found from web, so it was quite handy. Expecially when I had to change eight valves, two pistons etc... Couple of those damn intakemanifold butterflys dropped into engine.
Edit: I think the Topix you were refering to is this one: http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/vehicle/lookupForm ?

About the OBD port: I found one of the generic OBD II readers quite useless really with D3 -- this car is such complex a system really (as you may have guessed from those low-voltage error messages).
The best was if you invested into a Faultmate MSV2 (lots of info and recommendations on this site), the price is high though.
