I'm not scared, I'm outta here.
This is a mod I really want to do, living in Canada, it would be the greatest thing ever. I'd even give up my passenger side heated seat for a heated steering wheel.

It's not a bad mod living in the UK either
Vary good write up and photos particularly the one taken from under the steering cowl
One small point there are two screws holding the centre console cover in place, the one you have mentioned and one opposite hidden under the tray that has a black plastic cover over it, I also find it easier to start lifting the centre console from the cubbyhole/rear end.
Another tip, a small blob of grease applied to the flat retaining clips on the console and H trim covers works wonders for next time they need taking off It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Mines an 07 and only had the screw by the handbrake , not the one in the other side. Maybe they dropped the second screw after 07? Either that or some monkey forgot to put mine back.

Have look and see if is missing, it always catches me out when I remove the console It can when others can't,

Greg, remind me to put people off buying your stuff
Not the intention at all Martin, just offering alternatives, your lead is a great and simple fit, I did mine a different way, and TBH the lead didn't exist when I did it Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Definitely only one screw in mine M3DPO, I'd removed the cover and all the other bits to give it all a clean as well whilst it was apart, not even a hole there for a screw. I suspect it changed with model year as aidnoakes said, maybe others can confirm
