Tailgate won't open.
Locked the Disco with the remote and nowwhen I try to unlock the car the tailgate won't open. All the other four doors work fine but I cannot hear the mechanism even tryiny to release when I press the remote. I've checked the fuse behind the glove box and its fine. Any ideas?

press the lock / unlock buttons next to the hazzard switch together for about 5 seconds and see if that releases the catch
It will only pop the first part of the catch , so you you would need a second pair of hands to pull it open fullyG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

wiggs, you're a gent, that worked a treat. Still won't open when I close it again so i'm thinking somethings faulty? Car is an 08 plate so is this a warranty job? Or do I need to ride round with a tailgate opener aka no.1 son all the time

sounds like the micro switch in the handle .
Pull the rubber surround off the handle and you will proberly be greeted with this
Spray some wd40 around in there ..and at the little red micro switch .
The rubber is a bit of a to get back on though .
Or you can remove the trim inside , unscrew the whole handle and dismantle it that wayG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

THis is the second time this has happened. THe switch had corroded to destruction before. And I'll agree the rubber is a real pig to get on/offHONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

FIX FOR TAILGATE RELEASE SWITCH
Mine too has been playing up and getting worse over this past week.
Pulled it all apart and found that the micro-switch was knackered (technical term) due to ingress of moisture as described in this thread.
Because I am basically tight fisted, I replaced the micro-switch with a more robust one. (From my box of 'come in handies')
This is easily done if you hacksaw the old one off the back of the grey plastic housing and snip the wires.
The 'new' one was simply cable tied and bonded with body filler onto the back.
The button protrudes as per the original.
Solder the wires onto the terminals so that it all hangs off the small loom.
Assembled with white waterproof spray grease to stop further problems
Handle assembly then replaced with a small bead of clear silicone to stop water ingress.
All now working fine Cheers, Dave in Essex

Hi guys,
my Disco makes a noise as if it wants to open the boot lid when pushing the button, but nothing happens... I heard that there is a common Disco3 error that the cable operating the mechanism pulls out of the mechanism and then nothing can actually open the boot. Is that true? Or is there ANYTHING I can do to open it...it's a pain...
Thanks from Germany...

1 hour work:
2 mins to get the rubber off (with special tool for bike tubes)
8 mins to clean and spray with wd40
50 mins to get the rubber on again - finally I've managed by using very small screwdriver to lever the grey plastic| Il boit pour oublier qu'il vit

Can someone please help me on my particular issue...? Is this really a common issue or is the sound not related to the above?
Thanks a lot!

If you have got the actuator noise , but it dosent open ...then yes sounds like the end of the cable has broken .
You would need to prise off the carpet on the lower tailgate , break into the insulation foam and pull the remainder of the cable to open it . There is not much room in there
You would then need a new cable ( or do a modifiyed job that some one posted recently )G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
