Tailgate upper not opening

Can anyone help, I thought i had the same issue as described many many times on this forum, I could not open the upper tailgate so i stripped out the interior and managed to activate the latch so the boot was open.
I went out and purchased a new actuator £54 from craddocks, fitted but still not working.

checked the micro switch which seems to be working but not totally sure how to check completely.
checked the fuses and can't find any gone.

Now i don't know what to try next.

Please you clever ones out there what do i check next????
Adrian.

Im not an expert but i had a similar problem on my D3 that turned out to be a defective micro switch in the door, i was able to unlock the tailgate using the lock/unlock switch on the dash i know they have moved this on the d4 i then set the third button on my remote to open the top tailgate if the switch ever played up not sure if any of this is helpfull hopefully someone with more info will come along and help

thanks for the reply. There are no dash switches for the D4 which is a real pain. I have boot oper on my keyfob but i have no idea if it works because i have never used it, as long as i have the key in my pocket i can open any of the doors or boot. Do you know if you need to program the key fob???
I leaning towards the micro switch in the handle but i have no real idea how to test it, i can hear it click but does that mean it's o.k. There was quite a lot of decay when i took the rubber cover off??.

The central locking button is on your drivers door i think,if you use the button on the remote to open the boot and it opens it, keep it open then close the locking latch that would lock onto the latch on the lower tail gate and try the handle switch if nothing happens its the switch they are a bad design as water gets in and corrodes them i removed mine cleaned and sprayed with WD40 then re fitted and it worked great but after 6 nonths there was new corrosion thats why i set up the third button on my remote, i dont have any knowlege of the D4 remote but if your remote opens it, if its like mine you have to be holding the handle when you press the remote and pulling open at the same time hope this helps

Only way to test is to do the closing the lock and trying the switch to see if it opens

Have you started the car whilst doing any of this?

I fitted a new actuator yesterday. Didn't work. Checked everything and still nothing.

Started the car and moved it back into the parking space and started work. Put it all back together and all been fine. Don't know why it didn't work straight away. Maybe it needed the ignition to be cycled or system check.

so today I have had a good look at this problem - Actuator over a slave battery works fine and is brand new.
Switch in tailgate is brand new.
The issue that I have is that there is only 9.5v one side of the switch and what seems to be a fault to ground the other site.
9.5v is not enough to fire the actuator so even if I cut out all the wiring in the tailgate I still can't get the actuator to fire????
Has anybody any ideas.
Adrian.
