Tailgate Handle Removal?
Our D4 has had a dodgy tailgate switch for a while. I've just been out to fit a new one to find 2 of the 4 bolts holding the handle to the tailgate are spinning. I'm assuming the moulded captive nuts have broken loose.
How on earth do I remove these 2 bolts now?
If I buy a used one can the painted shell be swapped over to save painting it?
I'll get new bolts from AF. Ironically the switch is working again 🤦♂️

I found the nut in the handle would turn if enough pressure was applied and will screw back in...

Cover has two small screws from memory then a number of clips to hold the assembly together - remove the screws and you can swap the cover over, however it is possible to swap the handle trigger mechanism - inside the bimetallic switch will be all corroded. You can buy a replacement from a Ford Focus (the same part) and solder it onto the two wires without having to remove the handle
The ford one I fitted to my D3 was listed on Ebay as "Genuine Ford Focus Mk2 & C-max Tailgate Boot Switch Kit Incl Wiring 1748422" was £6 from memory
Took 20 minutes to do and put my tools away, longest part was to take the existing switch out witch was a gentle prize free with a trim tool after taking out the number plate lampMust stop buying shiny toys....

Cheers, got the new switch. But now the handle is loose. Car isn't going anywhere as the wife has symptoms so it'll be fine just now.
Watch out if the handle has started working again. Mine had a break in one of the wires so would work intermittently until it finally stopped. Could still open with the key press.Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

I actually bought a later used d4 handle but the camera and multi plug are both different. I've ended up buying a d3 handle with the correct aperture off ebay tonight (Mine is an early d4)

Can you replace the switch without remove the entire handle?

If you're careful you can remove the handle by pushing in the plastic tab. Put they are easy to break.
