Had the Bargo tailgate and crates in both my 110 and RR classic for 3 collies. Nice bit of kit and beefed them up with bolts on the fixings.
Left the tailgates open at shows and on trips to Sweden with no problems. Used padlocks to keep the dogs secure!!
Both vehicles and dogs still intact when we returned every time Series 2a V8 killed it
Series 3 ex coastguard
110 HiCap
110 rebuilt from pickup to 5 seated hardtop...got that one in a feature of LRO!!!
Disco 300tdi. White
Disco 300tdi. Iceland and back. What a trip and no frozen drumsticks!
P38. Loved that car. Still miss it.
MGZS 180 major smiles for miles. Gone.
D3...LED bulbs in and out. EGR blanked. Geoff flushed and serviced
MG TF - bought for SWMBO. She doesn't like it. Shame. To sell or not to sell.
Triumph Thunderbird 1600 - awesome

Sorry to restart an old thread.
Looking for something more temporary , like a cargo net to fix to the open space when the tailgate is up and hatchback open to allow view and air whilst preventing or rather discouraging dogs to get out.

A dog crate sounds like the best option. I have a crate for mine - I can sit on the tailgate with him in the crate, he’s secure and has full vision/air while sat in it.
It only takes up half of the boot space, so it still allows the other half for luggage etc.

Thankyou I am aware of crate options. I am after something that just goes across the opening when the tailgate only is up

I use 2 Transk9 B24ss boxes and either leave the tail gate open whilst stopped and nearby (dog training/shooting etc) or use the coolcardog vent thingy and double lock so it can't be opened by pressing the tailgate release.
Anyway, I don't think there is anything temporary that is manufactured to cover the upper and/or lower tailgate like you want. The only thing I can think of, if I was doing this myself, would be to use a few fixings into the plastic roof lining bit where the rear light is and then maybe drape fabric from that and fix it at the bottom to make it tight ish to discourage the dogs from exiting the vehicle.
Maybe some adhesive hooks (towel hooks? not sure how strong they are) and then perhaps army camo netting would work? The camo nets are pretty light and airy and have a few bits of fabric on them to offer some, but not much, shade. The dogs would certainly be able to see out of it and the air would get in.
