Can't say if related to power washing or not.
I've always used one (set to low power for the shiny bits which include wheels), but only had the car 18 months or so.
I have been using one of those stinking wheel cleaner products - that dissolve the iron particles in brake dust, and wonder if that is a possible cause.
I've not bothered pulling the caps off my old nuts to check their actual condition, but one did drop out a load of rusty muck all over my trousers, so corroded in there for sure.
Wishing I'd gone the cheaper route of replacing them now I've seen the credit card bill come in for the Wrington stainless ones!
Really must learn to stay off the 'net when I've had a couple of drinks...

Cured my swollen nuts today, sick of the rubbish quality
I ground and chiselled the covers of em all, not the neatest looking now but won’t have the problem again
I also found that the spark plug socket from a set fitted perfectly and is a little deeper so fits brill

So I arrived back from holiday yesterday to find my new wheel nuts had been delivered.
I had a quick think about how I could prevent them from swelling again and came up with the following solution.
Clear silicone sealant pushed into the gap between the stainless cap and the nut underneath to prevent any moisture or dirt getting in.
Here's a picture of before (left) and after (right). It's probably not that visible in the picture...

How about putting them in boiling chain grease - as used to do with motorcycle chains - and let the grease penetrate into the gaps, clean up and use. Hopefully the grease will be in all the crevices for some time.
Loctite would also work I reckon. just make sure they're nice and clean/dry before running some into the gap.

Thanks for the ideas guys. They are on the car now with the silicone sealant mod. Better than nothing and makes me feel a bit better that I have taken a small prevention step.
I only ever use hand tools and torque them up to the specified 140Nm so fingers crossed, they should hold up. When I need new tyres fitting, I'll also be requesting the fitters do the same.
Now to focus my energy onto my latest project...a very discrete front and rear dashcam install utilising tiny remote cameras that link back to a central recording box Kev

As far as I'm aware, it's not that the nuts are swelling.
They are twisting, and that's due to the constant tightening/removing over time.
But if I'm wrong, I do stand corrected.
Here's an interesting fact. I had just rotated my wheels, without any issues using my 22mm socket. I sent my car off to a garage to have new tyres fitted about a week later. Upon getting my car back I always check my nuts, as I have got it back from a main dealer with the front nuts not torqued correctly. I could not use my 22mm nut on any of the nuts, as they were swollen. I wonder if the garage used a 22 or even a 23mm hex socket, and have now I have twisted silver nut covers. It's really annoying, as I only have a non 23mm hex, and that just slips, so I cannot check my nuts. Oh well a good excuse to buy a set of hex sockets.

Cure for swollen nuts
A land rover naturally wants to return to its roots. Thats why the nuts swell to an imperial size. Carry a 7/8 socket and you carry the cure for swollen nuts.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂
