Swap short and long roof bars between cars

Changing to a newer D4 and want to swap the full length bars from my old car to the new which has short bars.
Never fitted or removed any before, and am curious to see how easy it would be.
Plastic decorative strip in the channel in front of the short bars - does this stay in place ? Do the plastic 'washers' pullout and then simply bolt into the roof channel ? Any sealant required?

Any advice appreciated.

Matt

So it's really easy to do but you have to trim the strips check out this link for the video on how to do it at bottom of page Thumbs Up

Will be doing the same thing in the next week or two having got a pair of genuine LR extended bars at a good price from a breakers. 8) looks pretty straightforward although i reckon the plastic blanking plugs that go in the screw holes will need replacing - 12 of at about 30p each. Also will put some blue loctite on the screws before tightening up to ensure they dont work loose.

Assume you've downloaded the fitting instructions?

if you've got the 3 cars side by side its easy, but if you haven't then as well as buying the shorter roof bars you'll need to buy the trim for the front, as when you fit longer bars you have to drill this in order if fit them.

Thanks both

The YouTube clip was very useful. You were right about the plastic plugs breaking...the locking tags all broke off, so I've put them back but will have to see how many disappear over the next few days.
Only hard bit was removing the front cover on the extended rails. Must be an easier way to get them off, managed it in the end but had to be fairly brutal, and think I was lucky they didn't break.
