Update part two.
So conned my brother into starting the car so I could sit with my ear near the compressor.
It is running! Starts up about 2 or 3 seconds after the car starts.
No idea about the battery. i will check it tomorrow for you and post.
Have stuck the solar trickle charger on it as a precaution. May not do a lot but every little helps as they say. It does get direct sunlight until about 2pm.
Hesitant to ask but is there any issue with replacing the compressor with an AMK "style" compressor from the likes of Ebay? (jumping the gun a little but assuming from research and age of vehicle that it is the AMK compressor until I get a chance to confirm it).
I understand the prudent long term thing is to go oem but every £100 saved gets me a week close to my next potential employment.
Johnny V: Glad your issue has gone away! Hoping mine will be similar. What compressor did you get?

Cant remember exactly as ended up supervising some garden maintenance but was roughly 12.36v.
Checked the other family car and it was the same.

Hello again!
Sorry for the silence, waiting for ramps and some better weather, (and a quieter road to work on as I am opposite a school).
Got under, (or close to) the car today with mixed results.
I ordered a dryer refurb kit from fleabay and have spent some time watching videos on replacing filters, dryer medium and cleaning out the easy to access areas.
Thought I had a grasp of the process......
Undo three bolts.
Undo five clips.
Drop lower cover.
Undo two electrical connectors.
Disconnect pipes using the compression fittings.......Err, not enough pipes in all the wrong places and no sign of a push fitting anywhere.
Undo three bolts holding the compressor to the chassis.......... two lower bolts Tick and now for the third? The third? where the hell is the third?
Can feel a bolt head up the side of the bracket near the dryer and buried behind cables and hose but cannot get a socket to it or imagine how I would ever get it back in again if I got it out.
Had to admit defeat and put everything back together for now.
It is an AMK compressor.
Where there changes made to the pipework and bracket for the 2012 model? Mine is a MY12 (2011 plate) SDV6 Discovery 4.
Hard to see much under the car as I can only get it up about 18 inches due to the suspension being on the bumps at the moment.
Any further suggestions or hints welcomed but looking like it may be a garage trip at this point.
Sadly no photos. i left my phone indoors to avoid crushing it and by the time I decided to take photos i was caked in dirt.

Admitted defeat and the Disco is now sat at an independent mechanics just up the road.
Have to say the 2.5 mile drive up there, even at 30mph was not comfortable sat on the bump stops!!
Fingers crossed they find the fault and manage to get her back to magic carpet ride quality soon.

Final update.
Had the car back a week now and all seems to be going well.
Compressor is a bit noisier than the old one, (suspect not an oem) but it is holding its height when left alone, (I left it in extended mode for 4 days to see if it would drop and it didn't).
Thanks again to everyone for their input and assistance. Very much appreciated!!

Thanks for the update. It's good for future reference to know what the solutions to the issues are.
Glad you got it sorted. Gary
