Suspension Height Failure - Normal Height Only

Hello lovely forum

I only bought my Disco 3 (Manual) 2007 XS yesterday. Got it home and was tinkling with the suspension settings. Up pops the "suspension height failure - normal height only"

Sad Sad Sad

It is only an amber warning light that comes on when driving. Turn off the vehicle and it disappears. Surely this can't be a compressor failure. Seems to drive perfectly well. Drove it quite a bit yesterday with amber light and no problems.

Presumably I just need to get it to someone with a diagnostic kit and check for fault codes?

Also is wise to continue driving with this issue or should I get it in to be looked at ASAP.

I know this is a common problem with lots of past posts but thought I'd see if any of you wise ole disco sages can fire me back some quick fire suggestions?

If you were moving the suspension up and down a lot then the fault would be there because it had run out of air pressure in the reservoir. If you only did it once or twice then the compressor may be starting to fail. If you get someone to clear the faults and then check them again you may have a "compressor slow air pressure rise" fault which means the compressor is on its way out. You probably have the Hitachi compressor which has been replaced with a better AMK version. I drove mine for 18 months with the slow air pressure rise fault before the compressor finally gave up.

Very helpful. Not really a lot. Just checking it over once or twice so will try and run a diagnostic on it when I get the chance.

Could also be wiring, or a reservoir pressure sensor, or a height sensor fault Whistle

Reading the DTC's is the only way forward

I've had this twice now in the last couple of weeks, always a few hours or next day after adjusting the suspension, Amber Warning Light with Normal Hieght Only Available, it will always (so far) reset itself with a restart, at this point I'm not unduly worried, just hoping I can get through to the first service as the dealer near me is the pits so any unessecery visit is a bonus.

2007 - bet it's got a few miles on it and the suspension bushes are a little bit flexi by now Whistle

Leads to excessive movement of the suspensions arms and this can trigger the sysmptoms you describe.

Mine hasn't reached 10k yet, so wouldn't have thought suspension wear was a factor.

As mentioned previously, you need to get the codes read.

In my case (with your exact symptoms), it was the previously mentioned "pressure rising too slowly". I know there are a bunch of compressor repair kits etc, all of which might or might not fix the issue, but to have those shipped over would take a while whilst dealer had a new compressor in stock, so new compressor it was.

If worn bushes can trigger suspension faults (never did on mine) it would give a completely different fault for sure. I had a front lower wishbone hydrabush which literally had cracked and lost all it's oil resulting in huge amounts of play, plus BOTH rear upper wishbone bushes on their last gasps of life (large amounts of play too) and not a single suspension fault was triggered. ^^^ had exactly the same issues as you JR and I've just had the Hitachi compressor replaced with an AMK one Thumbs Up

Mine started that way, then the lights came on all the time and only cleared for the first mile. Flack read the codes for rising too slowly. TLO sorted me a replacement upgrade and its great now....

...so just to keep you all updated...

It was the compressor. New one needed. Crying or Very sad I've been quoted £558 with labour. Shocked Seems a bit expensive to me but then it is Wimbledon.
