Suspension and HDC woes

Evening all ,,, I'm after some thoughts on what appear to be a common suspension failure but with HDC thrown in for good measure !

I started getting the suspension fault a few months ago but only occasionaly and the car would raise or lower no bother if I restarted. Then it started doing it after the first 1/4 mile every day, then stopped for over 500 miles , mostly towing miles, then back to every day.

I had to make a 900 mile round trip last week and the fault was there all the time. More worryingly though at one point it flashed up "engine fault" and the power died. It only died for a second but did so 3 or 4 times before the HDC fault came up too. It ran fine thereafter though, and after stopping briefly has run 200 miles without the HDC fault coming back. Suspension fault is now showing up after just a minutes idle.

I do wonder if the HDC/power loss was totally unrelated and my fault as I was using my left foot on the accelerator at the time and might have been putting a little bit of pressure on the brake pedal too (I know its not how to drive but at 3 in the morning with no cruise control my dodgey right knee needed a break !! )

I've scanned for codes with C1 131-92 and C1 A20-64 showing as intermittent. I looked at live data and on initial start up the gallery pressure was 98psi but crashed to 0 as the bong/light came on. Voltage to battery is 14.5 when running.

The car's done 117k and got a new LR23964 (Hitatchi ? ) compressor in 2012 at 62k.

I'm only just home and will get a proper look tomorrow though after some basic research on my phone for common issues, I've already ordered a new dryer cap and brake switch as precautions as I have to do the same trip again in 5 days and parts take ages to get to me.

You would help others to help you if you detailed what warnings you get, what happens to the suspension and what appears to cause the symptoms. Wink

Describing it as "it", doesn't help anyone give you advice.

Sorry Embarassed the "it" is the yellow suspension warning light on and the normal height only message.

C1131-92 Air supply and C1A20-64 pressure increase too slow.

HDC was the yellow light and dash message as HDC unavailable (or something like that)

It sounds like your suspension compressor is paggered.
Not sure what the loss of power is, possibly unrelated. Thumbs Up

The HDC fault only came on after the power stuttered 3 or 4 times. I drove 20 miles with it on then it didnt come on after I restarted and was fine for the next 200 miles.

HDC is probably a cascade fault.
The D3 is great for throwing up all sorts of weird and wonderful cascade faults which can lead you down a very bizarre and weird path to diagnosing not very much.

I'd change the suspension compressor especially if it's on the original factory fit item.

Can anyone help me find a schematic diagram as to how the air supply system is supposed to work as I'm struggling to understand it properly.

Got under the car and found the compressor loose inside the plastic cover as the mounting bracket had completely rotted away at its mountings.. Sprayed soapy water everywhere around the compressor and adjacent valve block but saw no leaks in the 30 seconds the compressor would run.

Tried disconnecting the pipes from the dryer and the blue one was blowing air back to the dryer .... confusing me totally !!

Is gallery pressure the same thing as reservoir pressure ? Again the diagnostics showed it rising to 130/140psi before dropping back to around 30 when the suspension yellow light came on.

I took the compressor off with a view to refurbishing it but had to cut the 2 rear pipes off as the brass fittings were seized solid. After considerable effort I got the fittings out but they fell to bits and I can't see any available parts option to replace them (I'm left with just the brass insert in the alloy of the pump). With that in mind I've bitten the bullet (and crossed the fingers) and ordered a new compressor. mount and pipe fitting kit from a reputable dealer. I know AMK would have been best but I'm a bit remote for getting software updated and I need the car urgently.

New pump fitted, 1000 miles and touch wood all is well.
