Suspension geometry advice
Hi
I am after some advice from the experts amongst you
A main dealer adjusted my suspension in January. The tyre wear was even as recorded by them (7 mm) in December across all the tyres during the service with around 500 miles travelled between the two.
Now the two rear tyres are bald on the outside shoulders and the front offside is badly worn on the outside shoulder, the near side front is fine.
The car has completed 5,000 miles since the geometry and had 7mm of tread left at the time and now has 6mm in the middle and inside edges.
I have been back to the dealers who are retesting the car on Monday. In the meantime I have taken the car to kwik fit, they have confirmed that the rear is out and front offside. I have the print out.
My query is, is there any reason for the geometry to go of alignment so quickly or could the dealer have had the car at the wrong height when they altered the geometry?
Also when I took it back the dealer reckoned the rear tie bar inner bushes were worn. They demonstrated this for and the play is marginal. They are offering to replace these under the warranty (2012 SD V6).
Many thanks in advance,
Jamie

The question to them must be why adjust the suspension in the first place if there was no wear and no other issues?MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Have they got the before and after print out from when they did it to show why it was needed and that it was correct afterwards, as it was outsourced, they should be in reciept of this and the invoice?Altox GSM FBH controller thread

On Beanie's point they should also have left the print out in the car showing the settings when completed as my dealer did with my last D4 and D3 when I had geometry checks completed on them.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Yes they did leave a print out for me but in my wisdom I filed it in the usual place as I didn't appreciate the importance of it at a later date
The one they have is in black and white so of little use.
Kwik fit we're very obliging and explained the process and that on the end one everything should be green, not sure if the dealer one was.
The geometry was altered as the steering wheel was slightly off centre and been like this from new, I had complained about this on a couple of occasions previously and nothing had been until I was a little more disgruntled. Land Rover supposedly paid for it to be done.
Many thanks for the replies BTW

If the steering wheel was out , I trust they recalibrated the steering angle sensor as that can throw up all sorts of TC & DSC faults

I had similar problems with my 2012my D4, i.e. the steering wheel was off centre and the dealer had checked the tracking etc on several occasions. I eventually took the car to an independent 4 wheel alignment specialist who said the settings were 'way out' but he couldn't adjust as a 'kit' was required for the rear. Back to the dealer and they agreed to send it to their 4 wheel alignment specialist. Result! Steering wheel now virtually level (even the new loan car was slightly out) and alignment correct according to print outs. Mine was done in Derby so not a lot of use to you but advice I have received is to make sure you use a reputable specialist who knows how to use the equipment correctly.

I took it to another company who confirmed the tracking out and that it had been set up either by some one didn't know what they were doing or the equipment was faulty / badly looked after.
It will be interesting which tack they choose to take

surely that should have been picked up on PDI and rectified ??Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

Sterring Adjustment
Hi
just add a little more to this, there are a few things that must be done before the geo can be adjusted, and a set sequence as well.
1. suspension set in tight tollernace mode
2. engine must be left running during adjustment
3. correct sequence of adjustment - 1. Caster (or), 2. camber, 3. toe in/out (got this from a chap i know in LR technical.
got mine finally sorted in Rugby, i think more luck than anything else, i can set TT Mode, but the chap left the engine running during the adjustment, spot on now.
