I have a niggle with my D3 which, after trawling through the topics, has not really revealed a definitive answer. When accelerating there is a deep, only just audible, rumbling noise which seems to be from the centre front area. If it was there when coasting and turning, I would swear blind a wheel bearing had failed, it's that type of noise. It only appears from 50mph and disappears at 70mph so when towing the caravan on the motorway, it is pretty much there all journey. I can play with it on the throttle, accelerate = noise, off throttle = noise disappears completely. It has been there since I bought it secondhand at 86k and has now covered 96k with no real increase in severity. If the radio is on it is barely audible but can be felt slightly through the car. I am suspecting the front diff bearings but was wondering if this is why people are replacing their bearings. Most seem to say it is noisy on overrun. Others say TC but this seems to create a strong vibration under acceleration or am I mistaken? My propshaft centre bearing seems fine, but again, when this fails it seems to create a strong vibration more than noise.
I know noises are difficult to diagnose by the written word but just wondered if anyone else has experienced my symptoms?

I have the same. It's got a new gearbox so should be able to discount that. Changed the rear propshaft and that has seemed to improve it. I do think it might be the tyres though.

Thanks for the reply sean. I have Cooper LTZs on so not the quietest but not convinced it is tyre noise. The tyres are noisy generally and this seems to appear on top of the noise they create. I could do with trying another Disco 3 as it could be a Disco 3 trait but seem to think it isn't. the missus doesn't even notice it but my mechanical background thinks it is something trying to rear it's ugly head!

Wife does not hear the noise as well. It's easy to get paranoid with these cars. Changed the oil in the diffs recently, a small amount of metal on the magnetic plug bit not touch. So will wait and see what develops
