Suspension Fault C1130-66

2006 Land Rover Discovery 3 SE w 157k miles
I started receiving this Suspension fault a few months ago.

C1130-66 (68) or (2C)
Air Spring Air Supply
Algorithm based failure
signal has too many transitions / events

I believe there is a tear in the Front Passenger side air bag because I can hear a noticeable air leak at low speeds when hitting bumps or making turns. The sound is not constant, only comes in short bursts. I don't notice it at higher speeds or when the car is parked. It seems to leak more when I put it in Off Road mode.

If I put it in Off Road mode with the engine running, I can get out and shake the truck and get it to make the sound. So if it's rocking side to side, it only makes the sound when it's going in one direction.

I'm at the point where I plan to order a new OEM air spring and front strut assembly off of Amazon for $250. Is there any other considerations or troubleshooting I should attempt before making this purchase? Does it sound like it could be any other culprit, height sensors, etc?

Is there a code lookup that is more specific for troubleshooting that exact code I received above?

Thanks for any and all help!

*EXTRA INFO

I sprayed with soapy water around the air suspension components, no bubbles anywhere. I removed the fuse for the suspension and measured wheel well heights, car remained fairly level after 24hrs.

The truck is only driven a couple times a week while in the city and gets taken off roading several times a year.

A year ago I had a tire patched and the mechanic placed the jack under the compressor and damaged the lower cover. After buying a new lower cover and checking the electrical, the compressor has seemed to run a bit longer than it used to but I don't know or think this is necessarily related.

Hm!! Did you spray the soapy water whilst rocking the vehicle as you indicate that's when you hear the possible leak, make sure to spray top connector (where the air goes in). Alternately get someone to rock vehicle whilst you locate the sound. Leaks are known from the tank under the LH front door. Could it be a squeak instead of a hiss? Compressor filter cover is known to crack between the two pipe connections.

I did spray with soapy water but I could not locate or see any bubbles. I could feel air coming from the general area of the strut but it did not feel specific to the air valve connection. It was a pretty loud hiss.

UPDATE 10/27/19

I just replaced the Front Passenger Air Strut and no longer hearing air leaking while in Off Road mode and rocking the vehicle. I put the vehicle in Off Road height, pulled the EAS 5A fuse and measured all corners from fender to center cap. I'll check back in a couple days and see if the vehicle has lowered any.

Does anyone know where to get replacement 15mm nuts for the top of the air strut assembly? I could not locate them on any of the parts diagrams I found online.

Most advertised struts seem to have them included

I purchased an OEM strut from Atlantic British and it did not come with any 15mm nuts. I used the old ones I had but the one that is closest to the engine fell off while trying to remove it from above.

Are these the nuts you're looking for? HN2 in the diagram.

That is the correct nut, however that company would not ship such a small order from the UK to the US.

Does anyone have US based site that sells them? Atlantic British does not carry them.

Probably worth trying your closest JLR dealer.

You may pay through the nose, but at least you'll get the correct units.

There is a place called KAD Fasteners in Orange County which a company I used to work for dealt with for metric nuts and bolts.

Dealer wants $13 for each nut.

Ouch.

Although I did pay almost 9 Euros for three water pump bolts from a main dealer a short time ago.

Amazon may be your best bet, you'd probably get ten similar for the price of one from the dealer.

Sometimes it’s just worth paying the extra money to fix it now rather than messing around trying to shortcut it. Of course it might be extortion, but what is your time worth? Not much if you’re running around to save $10?
