Suspension Fault on 2008 D3 Anyone in West Sussex with IID ?

Hi guys,
Rob here, new member.
I have had a number of Disco's, 200 onwards and wanted to try the D3 as I've always liked the look of it but was put off a bit by the 'bad press' I've read.
However, I bit the bullet and bought one a week ago, private sale.
Flew down from Scotland to get it too....should have walked away when I viewed it as the pics I'd been sent turned out to be 'economical with the truth' about condition of certain points, i.e. wheels, light scratches on paint, overall cleanliness inside and out and uneven tyre wear.
But having been awake all night travelling must have left me vulnerable so after a bit of hard negotiating I bought it and drove to Worthing, Sussex to visit my children before driving back to the west Highlands.
Next day, while driving, a 'bong' went off, a small yellow/orange icon appeared on the dash and a message about 'Normal ride height only, suspension fault' appeared.
Doesn't seem to affect the driving but clearly it's a problem.
If I'd bought from a garage, it'd be straight back but a private sale? Bit more complicated.
I checked the brake bulbs, ok, checked the tyre pressures, little high but even and can't hear any obvious leaks.
Trying other height settings brings up the message, 'compressor pumping too slow' or something like that ( sorry that's a bit vague but I'm loathe to mess about with the adjuster knob in case it gets worse and I can't drive home ).
Long story short, is there anyone close to Worthing/Littlehampton who has a reader and wouldn't mind having a look for me in the next few days as I leave for Scotland on Weds 4th of Sept.
I have always had good results from the Landy community out there in the past and I've got my fingers crossed this time too. I just hope I haven't screwed up severely by letting my desire over ride my common sense this time.
Thanks for reading guys, regards
Rob

Just copied a pic of the icon showing.
I've read a fair bit now about the possibilities and they do generally point to first getting the codes read.
I'm looking at the compressor as a strong possible contender and as cheapest option first, finding out about renewing/cleaning the filter material. New compressor is on the cards anyway as the vendor said he was pretty sure it was the original one.
I'll research what that entails as a DIY project.
I'll be checking out the pipework involved, leak testing etc but the electronics side of the problem are not my usual forte....like I said, I've owned several Disco's so big hammers are my speciality!
Just that I can't actually do much while down south, here, the bigger stuff will have to wait 'til I'm home.
Cheers
Rob

Thanks DrRob, but to be honest, a pukka garage was down as my last option (inveterate tight git).
Was hoping a member who's got a reader might volunteer his/her services in return for copious tea/what have you!

When is this happening?

As soon as you start?

Crawling round town?

As you get to higher speeds?

Do you get HDC errors too?

The compressor may have a leak on the end cap, still enough pressure to get it from access mode to normal height but not enough to get it to off road height.

Best thing to to is put it in on road, normal, height and then leave it over night with the fuse pulled for the suspension.
See if any corners have actually dropped over night.
If they have you a leak somewhere.

However, the warning you are getting could be from something as simple as steering angle sensor needs calibrating.
Is the steering wheel straight?

If that is off centre slightly, maybe from a worn bush or something, the car can throw this error.

Do you get the "Special programmes not available" message at all?

Also what is the battery voltage?

Have you got a multimeter?

If you have the nav you can access the voltage in there.

You really need to be at least 12.35 volts when you start the car and it should be at 14.5 volts when it first starts running.
Dip below the 12.35 and you get these sorts of errors.
Be careful in the menu, it under reads slightly, if it says 12v from start probably fine, so don't panic.

Hi Gizze,
Thanks for the reply and apologies for not getting back asap....running about doing 'stuff' before driving north to Scotland tomorrow.
The 'bong' and icon/message (suspension fault normal ride height only) come up within 20-30 seconds of starting up, whether pulling away or just sitting there.
No other messages or warning icons appear but I haven't switched around through the different ride settings as yet.
Haven't noticed it being unevenly low first thing but I'll try that once I get home.
Thanks for the 'hidden menu' link....had no idea.
I don't have a multimeter here but the menu showed +13v while running so hopefully should be okay...she starts fine, first time.
The steering wheel sits straight-ish (land rover!!) but does seem to favour the nearside a bit when driving. Made me think of the bushes then.
I'd be chuffed if it was just a sensor needing calibrating ....but going full circle, I need access to a reader, IID etc to check that out and sort. Hence my original 'plea'!
No 'special programmes not available' message....don't know what that is!
The hands on diagnostics' will take place once I'm home so I can start eliminating the more obvious mechanical things.
Thanks for the points and if you've anymore advice, it's very wellcome,
Cheers
Rob
