Suspension

Does the air suspension also use shock absorbers as in conventional spring vehicles? I ask because, my HSE is making a strange "thump" noise over eg speed bumps, pot holes etc that it did not do previously and which in a non-air suspension vehicle I would have put down to failed shockers, although various suspension bushes/steering parts were changed at the recent service so I would have thought any issue would have been picked up by the garage! Any thoughts?

Not a great surprise if the garage failed to notice a shock absorber issue Twisted Evil However, any pointers as to how to check/test the shockers & what symptoms would clearly show they were at fault?
Thanks

How many miles has she got and what bushes did they replace?

Mine had a similar heavy knock, which also happened when the brakes were applied sharply. New front lower wishbones cured it.

Only 28k - will have to look out the service receipt for the details (just glad I have taken out the extended warranty Very Happy )

Mine was 72k when the work was done. I would be very surprised at worn shockers after only 28k.

Mine goes off-road, and tows a heavy caravan and the shockers are still perfect.

ARB bushes more than likely. Have them checked.

Also the ARB stirrups could need replacing.

If they let go uot of warranty, they shouldnt
be too expensive or difficult to replace.
Are they going on both ends or just the front

I have had both front and rears done. I don't think they are expensive. The mechanic that did mine said its a little fiddly to get at the bolts.

I've had both done too. Rear stirrups and bushes at around 52K miles and fronts recently at 80K miles.

Front ones were a problem as the bolts had seized and required drilling out.
