What would be interesting is to know the VIN...your dealer must have that. Maybe you are about to become the proud owner of one of the pre-production vehicles! (Would be fascinating to know if any of those who already have their D4 are in this boat too).

If I recall, you bought/bit the bullet a "stock" vehicle on 15/09 for delivery at the end of last week.

The implication of that is your dealer had the vehicle, or another dealer did. It takes about 14 days from factory release to customer delivery, so your vehicle must already have been released from the factory and be in the dealer system.

If they are now telling you that LR still have it, then the original delivery timetable sounds highly questionable...... Whistle

(Oh, and do you still think I am being a little harsh on LR? Wink )

Winger - I think you are sounding quite kind about LR now Big Cry

I was told by my dealer that it was the last vehicle they had in their allocation and they just needed to "call it down" from LR and that would take around 5 days. Now they seem to have no idea about when the vehicle will arrive.

I will get the VIN number off them today. Would you know how to establish the build date from that info ?

Ooh, that's an interesting statement. Can I ask how reliable that number is (on a scale of "a mate told me so it must be right" through to "trust me, I know these things" Wink )? I ask, because the email trail with my dealer goes something like
- 7th: vehicle was almost ready to leave the factory and would be with me in a few days, certainly by 19th
- 14th: it's still with the factory
- 17th: vehicle called over, will be here Friday (18th) or Monday (21st)
- 18th: reg transfer paperwork submitted to DVLA
- 23rd: delivery "confirmed" (his quotes!) for Thursday or Friday this week so I should get it before the weekend

If your 14 days figure is accurate, then somebody was being a tad, errm, "optimistic?", right from the start... and if the countdown doesn't start till it's called over, then somebody's also going to struggle to get it registered by month end, which gets terribly interesting!

Cheers

Martin

Or they sold it to someone else! Confused

Martin,

Some of that 14 days includes the time taken for your dealer to PDI, register and tax the vehicle. Once the vehicle is built, it then goes into quality control and it may well be that this is where yours was held up.....the build date is programmed, but it doesn't take into account any delay to fix something that doesn't pass QC. Once it is ready to roll, it shouldn't take longer than 14 days - about 5-7 days to get if from the depot to the dealer, and a similar period to prep it for the road and your loving care.

As far as the month end goes, provided that the VIN is available, there is no reason why a dealer shouldn't register the vehicle in advance of its arrival with them. If your comment relates to the 0% and it is down to LR's failure to deliver, then I'd guess that you would be on quite strong ground.

Of course, once you have the car it will be very obvious exactly when it was in assembly and how long it took from then to get to you.

Because the whole thing is smothered in production labelling, should you care to take a look! Dates, times, etc. for a variety of bits bolted together to make your motor. Labels on the air suspension units are very obvious and easy to see.

Well, if they are littered with dates more like 12-15th September, you'll know the dealer was either being misinformed or was simply guessing at the timetable!
