To my surprise - Lunar Delta 580 - 4 |
|
My wife and I had a rare opertunity to go for a 2hr walk on Saturday evening, I say rare because since the arrival of our son in January things have been pretty full on.
Turned out to be an expensive walk though, drifted past a caravan with a for sale.
If you had told me I would do that a month ago I would not have believed you.
So; now the proud owners of a pristene Lunar Delta 580 - 4
I.m new to caravans, but not to towing, I expect the length will take a bit of getting used to, now on the lookout for an awning, I also need to get the extra electrics on the disco for the caravan.
Any pointhers on where to go for the above and what to get much appreciated.
Craig

if your looking for a new awning I can highly recommend NR Awnings Todmorden, they are equally as good as the more expensive well known Isabella

I have no affiliation to them just a happy customer for the last 20 years
and as Maplecottage says welcome to the other club Tintenter

Hi All,
Thanks for the welcome Steve, a new part of the forum I will be delving into.
Tintenter; had a look at the link, they do look like very good quality awnings.
Neil; Very interested to see what you have, but don't know what I need to measure, not completely sure how they fit to the caravan, we are prone to a bit of wind up here so it whatever I do get will need to be sturdy.
Any pointers who I should speak to about the towing electrics?

Welcome to the land of tintenting!
Next:-
1. Join the Caravan Club. Their guides are easy to use, plenty of online information, and they even run courses to learn how to tow a caravan.
2 Subscribe to a monthy caravan magazine. I like Practical Caravan, but there are others out there.
3 Tell your vehicle insurers that you are going to be towing a caravan. It didnt cost me any extra, and its on their files.
4. Get insurance for the tin tent. I do mine through the Caravan Club, who have been the cheapest quote for the last few years.
5. Enjoy yourself. Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

NR Awnings are okay (we use to have one), but a Ventura awning is so much better, they are the budget line of isabella awnings, frame, zips, fixings the same, just material slightly lower spec. Easy to pick up on ebay etc, if you get the fibre poles and easy clips it is easy to put up single handed.

Thanks for the poitners,
So far I have joined one of the above clubs, sorted insurance for £114/yr and trawled through dozens of awnings. I also watched an instructional 'Top Gear' how to tow your caravan video on I-player...
Seriously though, is it that diffarent to towing a trailer, appart from the obvious consideration for wind and the contents of the caraven??
On todays to do list, sort out a 12S socket, I have found what I need for circa £70

the thing about towing with the D3 is that is so capable you need to remember that the caravan is attached and give yourself enough room to manoeuvre, and that stopping distances will increase. you have chosen the best car to do it with but it is not infallible. best advice is to take it easy until your happy with the outfit and how it behaves. Your advice fits prety much with what I thought, have already been working out some places there simply would not be room to turn the whole rig, also very aware that there is a very large overhang, so will watch out for that. On holiday this week so will get a chance to try it out.

Yea watch the overhang at the back! I hit a tree in Spain a couple of years ago whilst maneuvering at slow speed on a tight corner. The back end of the van swings out when the car straightens up and a high branch hit the top rear corner.
Smashed the marker light, cracked the plastic rear panel and bent the roof.
