Mine has started to rattle there as well tonight, fine yesterday, has rattled in the past, doubt its an easy fix, even rattled when I closed the doors! Not the 1st owner but found the remnants of a drilled rivet head lying in the rear drawer.

Cant add anymore than my previous comment I'm afraid ..... Still silent at the moment .... but chopping it in anyway for a Discovery Sport PHEV... but that won't arrive until June at the earliest it would appear.... so plenty of time for the rattle to return I suppose.... :-}

Thanks both. Strangely on a trip today it was quiet for some time, but then started later. I thought it might have been temperature related. If I bang my fist on the roof lining just behind the front sunroof I can make it happen , so definitely something loose in there. It started after a very cold period and snow. Still working on 'thought solutions' and investigations.

I have found my D3 to have a quite dull sounding thud from the sunroof when closed and when going over uneven ground or a pothole etc. It’s not the headlining or roller blind, it is the glass because it stops when i crack the sunroof open and comes straight back when it’s shut. If i put light pressure on the sunroof with my hand upwards with it shut it stops it too.

I need to get some stick on foam so I can try a few bits somewhere to see if it helps. Or is it simple adjustment required?

I’ve done the auto adjustment / reset thing already.

Thanks for sharing. Mine doesn't appear to be the sunroof. Open or closed makes no difference. Blind open/closed makes no difference. It stops when I put pressure on the headlining behind the sunroof.
I think mine is likely to be the same issue as Dannyson.
Good luck with the fix.

Took the alarm sensor panel off, held the sunroof motor and it stopped rattling, seems to be something to the rear about the interior light panel, take the interior light panel off on a warmer day, double skin?

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Alarm sensor panel, where/what is that? It does sound like something is moving about/vibrating/jumping up and down.
It is definitely around the middle middle interior light panel. Any ideas how to remove? Trying to avoid taking down the headlining.
Cheers

My 'fix' couldn't be done without 'dropping' the headliner apparently..... but for £50 at a LR dealership it was a no brainer for me .....mind you .... had no idea how much it was going to cost to fix so gave 'Warranty Direct' a 'heads up' first..... Not needed thankfully!

£50 would get me 23 minutes in the dealers, bodyshop labour is usually less than the workshop, well worth it if thats it fixed. Probably a TSB for it

I've looked at it today, its got something to do with the plastic sunroof tray that the motor is bolted to, when the middle cover is removed there's a bolt holding the rear of the tray to the roof, when you bang on the headliner it rattles, removed the rear passenger light unit, pull down on that bit of tray and it stops, loosened the bolt and put a piece of thin rubber between the tray and roof, tightened the bolt and it seems to have stopped for now. Interior lights cover, pull from the bottom on mine.

Thanks for the update. Very useful. Let us know how it goes.
With my sun roof completely open I can see a semi circular plastic piece between roof and headlining which appears to be moulded on to the edge of what is a bigger piece , perhaps this is the sunroof tray you are talking about. When I apply pressure to it the rattling stops. So your explanation make good sense.
If I understand rightly, you’re saying what you did was achieved by pulling down the central light cluster and getting to the bolt that way and loosening it enough to stuff something to absorb vibrations in the gap. Can you confirm?
Thanks
 Gary

No, its the middle cover for the alarm sensor where the bolt is, access the top of the tray from the light cluster. If you look on ebay for a sunroof, few for sale, gives a better idea of what it all looks like, unfortunately not what the problem is, although it could have something to do with the metal plate thats riveted to the plastic tray?

Bolt is through the smaller one with the sensor hanging down!

I put the rubber over the elongated hole, could punch a hole and secure it with the bolt.

You can see how the light cluster fits, bottom is the top.

Thanks for the detailed info Sylvester19. My rattle comes and goes. Seems to be OK at first then after a while driving,I'll gp over a slightly rippled bit of road , then it starts.
Just need to clarify a couple of things as intend to have a more detailed look. I understand your point about the alarm sensor panel , sounds stupid but never noticed it was a separate panel before now! Couple of questions:
>Is the bolt you say you adjusted behind the alarm sensor panel?
>If so, how what method did you use to get this panel out of the roof lining? Panel removing plastic lever and pull? Clipped?
> Do I need to take down the central light cluster down? If so , is it a prise off job ?

Many thanks
Cheers

The sensor panel grip it front and rear and pull it straight down, should come off easily, small clips hold it, you'll see the bolt.

The light console has to come off as well, grip the side with the spring clips and pull, you'll notice the other side has hooks and clips holding it. Putting it back on make sure the blue clips line up with the holes.
