Suddenly empty tank!
Evening all,
Filled up my D4 the other night, drove it to work this morning with no issues, but tonight as I was leaving the office, the gauge level disappeared along with the range dropping to "---" and the orange light coming on. Wondering if its a loose wire somewhere - I'd just gone over the speed bump outside the office when it happened.
Any suggestions?

Known problem, fault in the wiring on top of the tank, fix is to drop the tank and repair the wiresMark

This happened to mine.
Don’t leave it that long before you get fixed, as I couldn’t get mine booked in and after about 400 miles or so, it would switch the engine off every few minutes, even with a full tank.Andy

Since I had a nearly full tank when this happened, does anyone know if I’ll be ok to run it down a bit -before the car decides against running? Or is it a set distance from when the alarm was triggered?

Yes, you should be able to run it down quite a bit (although mine was replaced with an almost full tank) as I was told it wouldn’t cut out, given that I left it for them to sort out.
Whilst I can’t remember exactly how many miles I did, it was approaching 400 miles, so perhaps it basses it calculations on how far you could get on one full tank.Andy

Same thing happens of the sender connection on the Jaguar XF
I believe its an identical component on the Disco 4
There is a simple connector on the sender wiring inside the tank, to get to it you have to lift the pump out of the tank and clean the connector. Bit of effort but little cost

So dropped the car off to my usual Indy on Thursday, with what I guess to be about 1/2 tank and got it back the same day. Noticed when I picked it up that the gauge read 3/4 tank, which was more than I expected, but range seemed ok. Drove a couple of miles in which time the gauge had settled to 1/2 tank. So stopped and filled to brim thinking maybe system needed to calibrate.
Today drove to Bristol (95miles) and back. On way, range seemed ok but gauge hardly moved. On way home, got onto M25 with 190 mile range and 3/4 tank, when both started dropping rapidly. Made it to M1 when range dropped below 60 and low fuel light came on, ducked into Hemel to refuel - 55l and one full tank later, started car up to find 133 mile range and 1/3 tank! Drove 10miles home, in which time the range dropped exactly 10miles.
Take it back to your Indy. Have a look under it but sounds like you have a leak AND sensor circuit wasn't sorted..

I don’t think there’s a leak. 55l after driving about 230miles is about right. Interestingly 28l (the amount that was left in the car) is about 1/3 tank and 130 mile range - exactly what the car showed after I refuelled. It’s like it hasn’t noticed the new fill-up.
Will be ringing them tomorrow, just wondered if anyone had any thoughts.
