Sub Woofer Not Working?

Hello,

I picked up my D4 last Thursday and noticed over the weekend that increasing the sub woofer setting to max and reducing it to minimum made no noticable difference to the sound. Doing this on my FL2 made a very noticable difference. The stealer said that it's because it's a different type of sub-woofer and so it doesn't work in the same way.

Is this true?

I find there you can only hear the change when using CD's and not radio or TV

I was using a CD, iPhone, DAB etc made no difference. They're having a look at it later to see if "we" are doing something wrong. They mentioned that we may need to reset it to factory defaults...

Drop the tailgate and get your wife to sit on it while playing the intro to Massive Attack's "Angel" from Mezzanine at full volume. If your tailgate is damp afterwards, the sub is working. Thumbs Up
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I wondered where it was, as I'd been looking in the boot and couldn't see it. The service bod at LR showed me it working but the Sub controls didn't have any affect with or without the Logic 7 button on, using the CD or DAB. He took me to another D4 and we tried the same CD and again nothing happened.

The conclusion was that the Sub Woofer control on the D4 doesn't work or it works in a different way to my old FL2, something to do with it being active rather than passive or the other way around, so it's just controlled via the base control (they suggested). Despite this oddity the sound quality is excellent.

I don't really think you can notice the difference unless you crank the dB up. Then you can't miss it.

Model dependant? Only on the HSE as far as I recall?

And the XS Embarassed Just back in and mine certainly has a sub woofer that makes a noticable difference as you adjust.

Maybe, does the XS have the Logic 7 button in the Tone menu? The service guy seemed to think it was something to do with that.

ChrisA - after spending the past hour with treble, bass and sub woofer settings at every possible position and volume turned right up, my conclusion is ......... I have made myself deaf! Laughing

I think the Disco3 with a 6 CD change made it easier to compare tracks than just the single CD now in the Disco4. Even using my collection of albums stored on my ipod (Des O'Conners greatest Hit and the UK's greatest Eurovision Song Winners) There was not much difference in the sound from the sub woofer.

I will try some other CD's which may allow for more bass and see how they differ. I couldn't swop them over while driving tonight as by the time I had done the twidle of all the settings and with the volume louder than being stood next to a jumbo jet engine at full throtle, I lost the ability to move a muscle and lost control of all limb movement.

However, it did promote one or two stares from drivers in the next car - or was that my singing?

And to think - it wasn't that many years ago we use to pay to listen to hours of music (?) that loud in the night clubs Wink

Laughing Thanks BBDisco3, the fact that you've done so much testing and not noticed any difference seems to me that the sub setting doesn't work at all. Shame really as the kids really liked their hair standing on end as they "felt" the bass in the FL2 - in that respect this Logic 7 system is a step backward.

I emailed Harmon Kardon but as yet I've had no response - maybe they read my Crotch Cooler post.
