Stupid technical question about towing elecs....

OK, so I have the electrics fitted by the dealer, so no drama there and there's the cheap set on e-bay which is also no great drama if you choose to do it yourself.

BUT, There are two electric sockets, one of them is for towing stuff to get the indicators & brake light s working on the trailer. But what is the other socket for..................?
i did say it was a stupid question..... Embarassed

The one with the white cap is the 12s (supplemantary) socket and provides power for tin-tent extras such as split charging, reversing lights, pipe & slipper warmer, speed retarder etc.

OK, you won't see the last two listed anywhere but i'm sure they exist Wink

One of those "I'm sure it's in the manual somewhere but I can't be 4rsed to walk the half mile to the car" questions:

What ampage is the auxilliary socket rated to? If I can avoid running another line from the battery to the compressor in the rear, so much the better.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

If you mean the one in the boot, 15A
The 12s socket should have a 15A switched and (IIRC) 30A permanent supply

BTW - park closer! Laughing Laughing Laughing

It's the 12s one I was after. 30A perm supply..... Might just do it. Need to read the spec on the compressor. I will never use the 12s for a tintent so figure I can remove that part of the trailer loom and take the perm live feed to the compressor (when I get around to finding a suitable location for it in the back of the car). That then leaves room for an air coupling where the 12s currently sits, just as Christyler has done.

Of course I still need to route an air feed from the compressor to a suitably located receiver. Still think the Viair 2.5 gallon one will be the best bet, mounted opposite the receiver/compressor for the suspension, although haven't spent any time working out how to mount it to the chassis yet. Now I have the Takla I can get the car up a darn site easier, so if it's dry on Thursday......

Cheers Ten!

Re the speed retarder..... Get a qualified electrican to disable this... Thumbs Up , you can then cruise quite easily at 80mph Whistle (or so I'm told)
