| Struggling to get spare wheel (with new tyre) wound up |

Have just had 2 new 20" front tyres fitted, one going on the spare. Has been sitting in the boot for a few weeks and just thought I'd put it bake properly.
After 40 mins of cursing and trying again and again, can't get the wheel wound up into correct position.
I have a TowTrust fixed bar fitted and haven't had any issues raising and lowering before.
Tried letting some air out, but don't want to let too much out in case my pump fails when needed.
Have managed to get the wheel up, rearmost end the highest, leaving the front end struggling to get up into the guide/shield behind the exhaust pipes. About 20 cm off the ground.
Previously had: Pirelli Scorpion Zero 255/50R20 109Y XL, which appear to have been superseded by: Pirelli Scorpion Zero Assimetrico 255/50R20 109W XL LR. Can't believe the tyre difference is so severe it would cause the issues? Luke

Any chance you wound the cable up without a spare wheel on it?.
Just wondering if the problem could be with the winch rather than the size of the tyre. Sorry if you are aware of this but without a load the cable can wind unevenly and jam up.
If you are going to test the winch best do it with a smaller wheel. Again apologies if you are aware of this issue.

Hi John - Made that mistake before!  This time I left it down and cable tied it to the back of the tower for safe keeping. The winch work fine, it's just trying to get the wheel in at the right angle - it's pushing tightly at the front and the back Luke

Can be a complete b1tch imho, raising the spare again.
I hope it's not patronising to say try again and maybe use a piece of wood to pus the tyre towards the front as you wind the winch?
Has worked for me in the past...

The tow trust bar can get in the way (ask me how I know!  ) I found that undoing the winch all the way and then allowing the wheel to be pulled along the ground before it starts on it's journey up can help, also a bit of persuasion from a boot on the tyre helps as well. If you can swing the wheel so the end nearest the two bar goes in first that seems to help.
I managed to get GG AT3s running 275/45/20 in so you should be ok.
Also try giving the wheel well a quick brush out before you start as you'd be amazed how much "rubbish" ends up in there !

Thanks for the suggestions. I did have the help of my daughter winding up while I sat underneath kicking and pushing the far (front-facing) end up. It's a brand new tyre so there's no muck. Wonder if it's friction.
Wonders whether WD40 might be a good shout, it should hopefully be washed off by the time it's ever needed ! Luke

The WD40 silicone lubricant or similar might help. I’d be happier using that rather than the ordinary WD40. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
