I have a wd warranty, but unsure yet if they will pay.
I'm confused - I thought the whole point of a WD warranty was that they covered snapped cranks & the like.

NJSS-I am hopeful they will pay, but its not 100%.
They want it stripped for an EXACT diagnosis before they will give a yes or no, and I guess that will cost me money if they say no!
I am just looking at the worst case basis.
While I cannot change an engine, I could strip it I suppose-I always struggle with the putting back together.
I will keep everyone informed, but its going to take a while to get resolved.
Thanks all.

As you know my car broke last week...…..
Mine went at the end of Feb. (MY10 XS)
Did a lot of soul searching. Costings etc. PM'd a couple of other members who had done the same thing.
In the end, it came down to usage.
We decided that the D4 was all we needed in a vehicle at the moment. It suited our usage of a vehicle.
7 seats when we need it. We managed to shoe horn 6 people, plus 5 full size suitcases, plus 6 hand luggage cases, duty free etc for our trips to and from Gatwick, all inside the car. Towing our caravan, plus plenty more weight capacity if we upgrade.
I'm not in a position to store a vehicle while breaking it. It would have been sold as Spare and repair.
We decided to repair. It cost more than I would have liked, as the crank failure had caused more damage.
I know there have been comments here and there of warranties not covering the crank issue.
If for some reason the warranty does not cover the repair, I do not envy you the decision process you have to go through. Done it once, don't want to do it again.
I wish you well.MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

Of course, when this happens it inevitably puts doubt in your mind about this issue re occurring, even when you have had a new engine, it could happen again tomorrow.

How much did your repair run to if you don't mind sharing?

Yes. I am wary of every little judder or sound at the moment. I know there is a year warranty on the replaced parts etc. In my case, the block, both turbos and crank.
And of course, there is the SWMBO effect. If one of those went, and was covered by the warranty, she would still see it as another issue with my car, and hers works perfectly..... MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

It ended up being a little over £7k inc VAT, all in all I think.
Labour, all engine repair inc block, crank 2 x turbo, replace some corroded brake pipes, and transport of vehicle from Bristol to the garage.MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

Just had a chat with them. The garage will be calling them to try to get authorisation.
As I have no money (just bought a house), I asked if they would pay direct, which was a no as my garage is not a nominated partner (I knew that).
So I asked where I could sent it to, and they said it MUST go to a Landrover specialist as their usual Halfords type partners cannot do it.
So I asked where the nearest LR Specialist was, as I am happy to transport it, and they they dont have one! Anywhere!
So I will have to foot the bill and claim back (if the claim is approved).
Will let you know sometime this week if the claim is approved.
